Located on a small Country Estate, just above the shores of Coniston Water, at the heart of the Lake District, this semi-detached converted barn shares a courtyard with 4 other delightful holiday homes. With a private garden, extensive shared gardens and grounds and direct access to the estates private lake shore Tinkler Beck Cottage makes an ideal base to enjoy a wonderful holiday. This spectacular area has welcomed and inspired many renowned guests including Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome (author of ‘Swallows and Amazons’), Tennyson, the victorian Poet Laureate and the painter William Turner. The awe-inspiring scenery of idyllic Coniston Water with its backdrop of the rugged Coniston Old Man mountain range will make any stay extra special. A real treat for the adventurous, this superb holiday home is ideally placed for all the attractions and outdoor activities on offer in this glorious corner of the UK but is equally perfect for those who just want to soak up the peace and quiet and relax. A short distance from the Western edge of Grizedale Forest, miles of walking and cycling trails are yours to explore. Enjoy your favourite water sports on magical Coniston Water where Donald Campbell made his water speed record attempts in the famous ‘Bluebird’. Coniston village is just over a mile away and offers a range of outdoor activity providers, shops, pubs, cafes and a highly rated Bistro. The Boating Centre is a great place from which to hire boats, take boat trips on the famous Gondola (a Victorian steam yacht) and Launches or just simply feed the ducks and enjoy an ice cream.

Tinkler Beck Cottage offers a combination of style and comfort, coupled with an enviable position close to the lake. This holiday retreat is equally suited to both those who want to relax and those looking for adventures. From the courtyard the house opens into an entrance hall/cloakroom where you will find a washing machine and a 2nd entrance door leading outside to the private patio and parking area. The small, charming bunk room under a sloping ceiling is also off this hallway (ideal for children but fine for adults too) as is the light filled kitchen and dining area. A bright and airy room with plenty of space to gather and prepare and eat wonderful food together, the kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Through the kitchen along an open hallway you find the roomy yet cosy lounge, with TV, DVD player and a wonderful woodburning stove set in a stone inglenook fireplace, it’s a comfortable place to relax after a long day exploring. There is also a lovely king-size bedroom on the ground floor as well as a small WC. Upstairs from the dining area to the first floor there is a pretty twin bedroom. On this floor there is also a contemporary shower room with a basin and toilet and a large bathroom featuring a whirlpool bath, overhead shower, washbasin and toilet.

Outside there is lots to explore, the delightful, sunny patio, a great spot for alfresco dining, opens out onto a large grassy walled garden ideal for family games then on through the grounds to the water’s edge. The estate’s private lake shore area which is shared with other properties on the estate, is the place for picnics, paddling and fishing for tiddlers and if you want to bring your own sailing boat there are jetties to tie up to. Loved this holiday home and the views are absolutely breathtaking when looking over the lake. From the patio, you can see glimpses of the lake through the overhanging trees. The walk down to the lake is on an incline so be prepared for the walk back up. The house is so much more spread out than the pictures would have you believe. The Cottage is in a lovely location with access to a jetty at the lakeside. It is spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well appointed. We had a superb week in September and hope to return in the near future.

Nice cottage in nice location close to Coniston Water. Rooms a bit small, storage limited. Also, heating adjustments were not possible in certain rooms (locked plastic cage around thermostats), as a consequence the whole family caught a cold during our stay. No hooks to hang towels in some bath rooms. 5 star rating for comfort overrated according (Read more4 star more appropriate). Hide
