A cosy farmhouse with rustic wooden beams and plenty of historic charm Settle down by the wood burner or the open fire on colder evenings Embrace the rural surroundings with relaxing walks through Duddon Valley

Property code: OC-SZ107

Take a stroll down to Seathwaite Tarn and wander round the reservoir or try your hand at wild swimming. For keen hikers, the Coniston mountain range is just beyond, with its famous Old Man of Conniston peak. Seathwaite village has a welcoming pub, perfect for treating the family to a hearty meal after hiking up nearby Caw Fell or Harter Fell. 5 miles away is Ulpha, a quiet village with a convenient village shop and post office. River Duddon runs through it, providing a lovely setting for a picnic on a sunny afternoon. You can also enjoy the scenery of the Lake District from the Eskdale Railway which heads to Ravenglass by the coast.

As one of the oldest farmhouses in Duddon Valley, it retains some beautiful original features including exposed beams and low doorways. Enter through the flagstone hallway, laid with slate from nearby Walna Scar, and take off your shoes. To the right is the cosy lounge, where you can settle down for the evening on the stylish sofas and keep warm by the open fire. The first basket of logs is provided, and then you can get further wood for a small fee per basket. Watch a film on the TV or enjoy a digital detox and play card games. Prepare delicious meals in the traditional farmhouse kitchen, complete with an electric oven, dishwasher, a dining table, and a wood burner to keep you cosy. Adjacent is a utility room that houses the microwave, fridge/freezer, and washing machine. There is also a ‘cold’ room which used to be the old dairy. Upstairs you’ll find three beautifully furnished bedrooms, including two king-size bedrooms with chests of drawers and hanging space, and a twin bedroom which also has ample storage. To complete the property, there is a generous family bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC.

To the front of the cottage is an open patio area with seating so you can enjoy the fantastic panoramic views. The side of the property has a lovely orchard, while to the rear there is a small garden with more seating. The next-door barn is great for locking away bikes, and it also houses a tumble drier and the logs which you can access on an honesty payment basis. Private parking for two cars can be found at the cottage.  The cottage is reached via a farm track which is suitable for most cars. Vehicles with a very low suspension may struggle, so can be parked at the neighbouring farm for the stay.

Outstanding. One of the very best in Britain. Perfect for anyone wanting remoteness, quiet, scenery, walking straight from doorway, open fires with logs provided, and all reasonable comforts. Excellent decor, well maintained, faultless. Not suited to city cars with small ground clearance, or people annoyed by cuckoos singing outside the bedroom winRead moredow. Hide

Truly outstanding, superb location, excellent walks from house, very warm and cosy, open fires with logs in byre, well provisioned with comfortable facilities. Note: this site is seriously remote, so take enough food and fuel to see you through.

Great place and location - completely emersed in the Lake District. Perfect place to recharge the batteries. The best part about this cottage is its remoteness - with only Paddy's farm just visible through the tree line. Great walks from the doorstep. Quite a unique rental.
