One of a handful of tiny villages and hamlets in the area, Boltongate is ideally located for exploring both countryside and coastline. Browse the independent shops, cafes, pubs and bars of Cockermouth, before continuing south to Bassenthwaite for a lakeside picnic. Just north of the lake, the Lakes Distillery produces artisan whisky, gin and vodka and runs fascinating tours concluded with a trip to the tasting room for a quick tipple. Keen walkers will enjoy the challenge of nearby Skiddaw, 14 miles away, with its heather-clad slopes and magnificent elevated views. Or, for a change of scene, head 14 miles north to reach the Solway Coast, home to nature reserves and sandy beaches.

Inside, great attention to detail has been paid to create homely accommodation complete with oak flooring, fresh neutral decor, interesting artwork and antique furniture. Formerly the tack room, the pretty farmhouse kitchen is now light and bright with panelled walls and charming original features. The kitchen is equipped with a range oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge with ice compartment, washer/dryer, handy boot rack and dining table. Steep stairs lead up to the rest of the accommodation, including the warm and welcoming lounge complete with oak flooring, plump sofas, a Freeview TV and DVD player, and a warming wood burner for cosy nights in. Also on this floor are two elegant double bedrooms, both with spacious en-suite bathrooms and separate shower cubicles.

To the rear of the property is a partially enclosed garden with a lawn and beautifully stocked flowerbeds. Beyond this lie substantial shared grounds including a tennis court and storage for bikes if needed. There is ample parking in the courtyard.

A fabulously unique cottage in idyllic grounds. Hosted by the wonderful owner, Phillipa, who was warm, genuine and very attentive. The cottage has been renovated to an extremely high standard while still retaining it's original charm. It is set in expansive grounds that are a joy to explore for long walks with the dogs. Wonderful cottage with spacious accommodation. Very well appointed and clean with everything you could need. Absolutely gorgeous setting, away from it all and surrounded by lawns and woodland in which you could walk. Lovely host, Philippa was very friendly and welcoming.
