Nestled among fells between the southern tip of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass, find many spots to explore close to home. A 3.5-mile trip will bring you to Glenridding at the bottom of Ullswater where you can hop on a steamer with your canine companion in tow. Jump on and off and explore the National Trust’s Aira Force waterfall which sits amongst ancient woodland. If you’re a keen cyclist, Kirkstone Pass is a great place to visit, the heart of which is 4.5 miles away. The strenuous climbing sections are rewarded with spectacular mountain views and you can enjoy something to eat at the inn near the summit. If you’re into completing Wainwrights, this is the perfect home for you! Head straight from your door and onto the 7.5-mile Dovedale Horseshoe walk.

Sitting on a working farm, this Grade I-listed cottage is full of country charm and character. Head through the courtyard and into the kitchen which boasts a magnificent view and is brimming with farmhouse charm. Find a large electric range oven with ceramic hobs, a microwave and fridge/freezer, and a dishwasher and washing machine. Make use of the handy utility room where you can find the tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. Dine together at the table before heading over to the inviting lounge where you can spend sociable evenings relaxing in front of the open fire. This dual-aspect room is flooded with natural light and adorned with local art. Play board games and enjoy a competitive night, put on your favourite TV programme, or choose a DVD for a film night on the sofa. The ground-floor single bedroom has a TV and door to the patio, plus an en-suite shower room and WC. The shower has a seat, and the room has handles placed throughout which may suit guests with limited mobility. Please note there is a step up into the shower. The three remaining bedrooms are located off the stepped landing on the first floor. When it’s time for bed, climb stairs and settle down in one of the three the king-size rooms all with storage for your belongings. All first-floor bedrooms have lovely views and share the family bathroom with bath, shower attachment and WC, where you can start your day with a relaxing soak.

Take your morning brew outside; accessed via the kitchen or the ground-floor bedroom, the enclosed garden has a pretty patio and far-reaching views to admire. Make the most of this space and dine alfresco on the table and chairs on summer evenings when the sun shines late. There is off-road parking and a wheelchair-friendly path to the cottage.

Wonderfully warm, well equipped, and cosy for a family break. Fab location if you love passing wildlife, views, peace and quiet. Jimmy was welcoming and entertaining in equal measure, and his love of the house and farm shine out. We enjoyed walks, pubs, staying in front of the fire and restorative nights sleep. Lovely cosy and very well equipped house in a stunning location for walking. Campsite nearby with a handy shop. Because of the campsite and the brilliant location there are lots of walkers going by the house all day so it doesnt feel as remote as it looks. This may be a pro or a con depending on how you feel

Peaceful retreat with spectacular views from every window. Its not really a cottage, its very large. All rooms are generous in size and well furnished. Top quality everything. Tricky to find, down a private drive behind the Brotherswater Inn. Will be returning I feel repeatedly. Nearest supermarket Sainsburys Penrith. Kitchen has everything.

We enjoyed our stay, especially the short walk to Brotherswater lake. Cottage clean, comfy, lovely views. Teatowels, soap, washing up liquid/tablets were provided, although no welcome pack. 20-25mins to Ambleside over the Kirkstone pass & 10-15mins to Ullswater. A lovely place to stay in a stunning location. Superb to wander the fells from. Garden was dog friendly and secure, unless they can jump a 4 or 5 foot wall. Sheep wander right up to the gate and in the drive so not for dogs that aren't good around them! Only concern was the water.
