This delightful bungalow is set on the edge of the pretty Lakeland village of Portinscale, where you will find a choice of pubs and restaurants. Providing inspiration for Beatrix Potter, the local woodlands and lakes offer miles of superb walks right from the doorstep, with the shore of Derwentwater just a few hundred metres away. Here you can hire a kayak, windsurf, or head out onto the lake for a cruise. The town of Keswick (2 miles) has plenty of great places to eat and drink, or you could cycle through the Newlands Pass to Buttermere (8 miles). Other local attractions and landmarks include the Puzzling Place (2 miles), Castlerigg Stone Circle (5 miles) and Derwent Pencil Museum (1.5 miles).

A couple of steps lead you up into this light, refreshing and relaxing holiday home. The hallway features a cloakroom perfect for hanging up coats and storing outdoor equipment. The bright and tastefully furnished lounge is a delightful space to relax in at the end of the day. Featuring plenty of comfortable seating, TV and electric fire, this is a perfect spot to snuggle up, enjoy the views or catch up with a good book or favourite movie. The stylish kitchen/diner is equipped with everything you may need for cooking and enjoying your favourite meals, including an electric oven with gas hob, microwave, small fridge and a TV. There’s also a washing machine, to be found in the utility room. A couple of steps down from the lounge leads you through to the bright and airy sun room, which houses a sofa bed for a further two guests. This is a perfect spot for keen birdwatchers, with tranquil views out across the garden and towards the distant mountains. Exploring the property further, there are two delightful bedrooms – a twin and a double – each with a TV and fantastic views across the garden and towards the distant fells. The double room has a window through to the sun room. The bungalow also has a stylish family shower room complete with a walk-in shower and WC.

Patio doors lead outside from the sun room and onto the patio, which makes a delightful spot for sitting back with a glass of wine and taking in the stunning views. The large garden surrounds the house and has plenty of lawn areas – often visited by rabbits – which provide plenty of space for children to play and dogs to run. Please note, the garden is not fully enclosed, and there’s a steep slope between the different levels, so children and dogs should always be supervised. Plenty of off-road parking on the gravelled area to the front of the property, as well as a garage for storing bikes and outdoor equipment which also house the tumble dryer and main fridge/freezer.

We have been going to the Lake district for many years., this property is in a great location with great views. The only thing that lets it down is the property itself, Very tired. We would consider a return visit if certain maintenance issues were resolved.

We had a wonderful time at Birchfield Cottage. It is set in a lovely area, overlooking a marsh and viewing the mountains of the Lake District. We loved the pheasants, rabbits, all the other birds and roe deer in the garden. It was nice to view hikers walk by from the comfortable chairs and couch. There are nice places to eat, nearby. We loved the CRead morehalet Tearoom and had diner at The Famers Arms and Swinside Inn. Both recommendable! For dog owners the cottage is because of the fenced garden! Hide

My husband and I and dog enjoyed our stay in Birchfield. The house was cosy, with plenty of hot water. Convenient location to explore the lake district and the cafe nearby was very nice for breakfast. The kitchen was well equipped. The house could do with some updating, but was clean and tidy. Our only complaint was the steps down to the lawn, theyRead more were crumbling and unsafe, and need a lot of work done. Hide
