Nestled within the serene landscapes of the south coast of Cumbria, in the village of Flookburgh, lies this charming home-from-home offering an ideal sanctuary for those seeking a tranquil retreat. Flookburgh presents essential amenities including a pharmacy, a convenience store, an inviting pub, and a local bakery. Approximately 2 miles from the cottage awaits the enchanting village of Cartmel. Here, visitors can wander along quaint streets, enjoy leisurely walks along the stream, sample some world-renowned sticky toffee pudding, and relish the abundance of cosy pubs, Michelin-starred restaurants, and unique shops. Cartmel Racecourse also beckons, located a mere 2 miles from the village. The charming coastal village of Grange-over-Sands lies just 3.5 miles away, offering a delightful promenade adorned with attractions. Additionally, nearby destinations such as Windermere, Hawkshead, Coniston, and Ulverston (all within 18 miles) present further opportunities for discovery, making the perfect location for uncovering the Lake District’s hidden gems.

The front door leads into the cosy lounge with a wood burner, two sofas, an armchair, Smart TV, DVD player, sound bar and ample hanging and storage for outside gear. Off the lounge is a doorway to a small hall leading to the kitchen, and a wide stairway taking you upstairs. The kitchen is full of character with its low-original oak beams and is well equipped for those guests who prefer to self-cater. The focal point is the island which can comfortably sit four people, ideal for breakfast or a casual lunch. A small utility off the kitchen is home to a larger fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and separate dryer. For a more formal dining experience there is a dining room with seating for six; somewhere to dine or somewhere to play board games or cards with family and friends. The dining room also has a wood burner. A small hallway accommodates a selection of books and maps: something for everyone from children’s picture story books to walks in the local area. The central staircase leads to a half landing with a lovely large window and charming window seat; a further deep step up leads to the family bathroom which is home to a roll-top bath with a shower over – the bath is deeper than the average so be careful when climbing in. There is a single bedroom to the right of the bathroom. A second shorter staircase leads to the two further bedrooms: the ‘Blue’ bedroom with its king-size bed and the larger ‘Grey’ bedroom with a super-king size bed and en-suite shower room, with space to relax in the armchair by the light and airy window.

At the back of the cottage, there is a small courtyard with a wooden bench and during the spring and summer months, you’ll find a table and four chairs. There are some stone steps which lead from the backyard up to the back street so please supervise young children and pets when using the outdoor space.

  • 3 bedrooms – 1 super-king-size, 1 king-size and 1 single
  • 2 bathrooms – 1 en-suite shower room with WC, and 1 bathroom with shower over rolled top bath and WC
  • Rangemaster oven and hob, microwave, coffee machine (Nespresso pod compatible) under counter fridge and a large fridge/freezer and dishwasher (Please note that the natural beamed ceiling in the kitchen is low)
  • Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer
  • Wood burner in both lounge and dining room (first basket of logs included)
  • Smart TV in lounge
  • Hairdryer
  • Private rear courtyard with seating and chiminea

The cottage itself is very nice. Its spacious, clean and well equipped. On first impressions its situated in a quiet village close to the shop, pub, fish and chip shop and bakery. Extract fan in the en-suite did not work and no opening windows. The water would randomly go cold whilst having a shower. Apart from that a great cottage and good location

Saffron Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. We visited during a cold February and could not have been more comfortable. It is very well located for the southern Cumbria coast and Lake District. Our dog was perfectly happy being confined to the downstairs areas, with an effective stair gate provided.
