Within 10 miles you can board a pleasure cruise or hire water sports equipment at Bowness-on-Windermere, see the ruins of a Roman Fort, or join a pony trek on the fells surrounding Windermere. Should you wish to venture as far as 20 miles, you can reach the aquarium at Newby Bridge, an arts centre in Kendal and an active heritage steam railway at Lakeside.

Entering the cottage through the front porch, you’ll arrive in the lounge with original ceiling beams and an open fire around which are cushy, cosy seating options. Off the lounge is the traditional yet functional kitchen/dining room with seating for six around a farmhouse style table. Lovely cottage with some niggling faults in a very good location. Dont book here if you have a large car - parking the back of the cottage is very challenging, especially when there is another car parked for next door. Elterwater is terrible for parking anywhere else at popular times (NT car park permanently full and a queue). On the plus side, theRead more cottage is generally very comfortable with good beds, living room furniture. Kitchen/dining table seats 6 which was handy for entertaining family who walked over from Langdale Estate. Best of all the dog was very happy here, so we were too. Hide

Cleanliness not as we would expect. Old tissues found under the twin beds. One cereal bowl was filthy with dried cereal. Ball of dust and fluff found under the dining room heater.

Beautiful cottage, in a great location. Well equipped and cosy. Great walks in all directions. Windermere, Grasmere and Coniston all within walking distance. Bus stop opposite cottage so great transport links. Britannia pub across the road. Parking is tight but was no problem.

Lovely property in excellent location. There were comfy beds and the showers were good. Bus service at the door made exploring easy. Parking was difficult with a large estate car. Lots of local restaurants/pubs. Would be happy to stay again.

A pretty cottage but very dark due to dark furnishings. Parking is very poor. Staircase difficult for people with mobility problems.

The cottage is ok, but would benefit from a deep clean, and the gardens tidying up so they're properly useable, as they were quite overgrown. The parking space is extremely tight, only really suitable for a small car rather than medium. Location is great.

Rose cottage was very cozy, warm and comfortable. It was well positioned in Elterwater village and quite close to the pub! However, the parking was very tight especially if you have a large car.

Rose Cottage is in a great situation close to the Britannia Inn in the centre of Elterwater with plenty of stunning walks right from the front door - just as well given that getting a car in and out of the parking space is difficult. Lovely well-equipped, comfortable small cottage in quiet location. Parking the Golf was challenging- not easy to find the right place- a second car problematic as the National Trust car park is quickly filled each day and no overnight parking. Easy walks nearby so great for more 'mature' people like us!

Another wonderful week spent at Rose Cottage; the perfect 'walkers' retreat, warm and cosy with the best log fire. The cottage is superbly equipped, especially the kitchen. The location could not be better, you could spend a week walking each day from the cottage and not have to drive anywhere. The parking space suits small cars, but with National Read moreTrust membership you can park free of charge at the car park opposite, so parking has never been an issue for us. With the Britannia Inn only 40 meters away you never need to worry about a good meal at the end of the day. The cottage is very dog friendly with very well thought out colour schemes so that you don't need to worry about leaving any marks on the floor if it is damp out side. Highly recommended if you are a walker with a dog. Hide
