Cosy rural cottage for two, in a tranquil location with easy access to Hawkshead and Ambleside.

This charming cottage is one of two properties converted from a fine 17th century Lakeland barn. Tucked into the hillside and surrounded by beautiful countryside, it is close to the beauty spot of Tarn Hows, and under two miles from Hawkshead, one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District. Home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery, you will also find tearooms, pubs and gift shops in Hawkshead. Close by are the lakes of Esthwaite Water, Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, with places such as Ambleside, Coniston, Grizedale and Grasmere all within easy reach.

On entering this traditional cottage, you will find yourself in the cosy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its exposed beams, slate flagged floor and wood burner. You can unwind in the lounge with the TV, DVD and radio. Moving over to the attractively designed and well-equipped kitchen you will find everything you may need during your stay including an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. There is also an ideally situated breakfast bar. Heading upstairs via the steep, narrow staircase, you will find a comfy king-size bedroom complete with window seat, overlooking the garden and with gorgeous views of the rolling countryside. The unusual Chinese screen wall separates the bedroom from the good sized bathroom. The bathroom, offers a shower over bath, basin and WC.

Stepping outside you will find a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer, as well as plenty of room for keeping walking gear or bikes. You will also find a small but charming enclosed garden with table and chairs, where you can relax at the end of the day. Off-road parking is available adjacent to the property.

In general we had a great time once we got our bearings . We wish the cottage could have been closer to more amenities although it was nice being so quiet. We will definitely be back but want to be closer to either hawkshead or Ambleside

This was our second visit to the Lake District and our second booking with Lakeland Hideaways. Whist our first trip was good this property ticked all the boxes. A perfect location, easy walk into Hawkshead and dog friendly. The cottage was everything we could have asked for. Small but perfectly equipped and great for a couple with 2 dogs. Easy parRead moreking and walking into Hawkshead, mostly across fields and very little road walking, ideal for anybody with dogs. Hawkshead itself has four dog friendly pubs, but you need to be aware that not all of them serve food all day. Have already booked Barn End for next year. Hide

The cottage was cute and cosy and in an excellent location for lots of beautiful walks and to explore places further afield. We took our puppy and she loved it too! We'd definitely recommend it for a couple.
