This quaint and pretty cottage reflects the peace and tranquillity of the woodland garden it sits in and offers real home-from-home comforts with stunning views.

Gaze out through the floor-to-ceiling windows at this homely, single-storey property, 2 miles from Penrith. Up to four guests, and two delighted dogs, are welcome at the two-bedroom, Cumbrian home, which is set between the Lake District and the North Pennines. Venture out on long walks and return home to light the wood burner or soak up the sunshine in the pretty garden. Make your way into Penrith to shop or to dine out in one of its pubs, cafes or restaurants.

Wander into this home-from-home and make your way into the garden room-style lounge/diner, where you can watch TV, sit down to meals together and lose yourselves in the views. Find you also have a snug, with a second TV, where you can stoke up the wood burner on chilly evenings. Cook holiday feasts in the kitchen, which comes equipped with everything you need, including a washing machine to whiz clothing through after muddy walks. Head through to either the double or twin bedroom, which share the family bathroom, at the end of each busy day. Open the doors on to the garden from the double bedroom and step straight outside on bright, sunny mornings. Take a cup of tea out into the garden and watch the children or pups on the lawn, as you enjoy the Lakeland air. Find car parking at the property.

Plan days out to Ullswater, 6 miles from the cottage. Book tickets on one of the renowned steam cruisers. Disembark during the trip to see the famous Aira Force waterfall and look out for red squirrels or stop at Howtown and follow the Ullswater Way for 8 miles along the picturesque shores of the lake to Glenridding. Stroll less than 1 mile from the cottage to reach 13th-century Brougham Castle, in a magical setting.
