The track along the river offers an enjoyable stroll which leads you to the fantastic Skelwith Force waterfall. Wander around the many shops in popular Ambleside (3 miles) before stopping off to eat in one of its many pubs and restaurants. From here, hop on a ferry at the terminal, which will take you out across Lake Windermere.
