Escape to the heart of the Lake District National Park and call the quaint village of Hawkshead, home. Steeped in history surrounding Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth, this charming village and its cobbled streets are home to some of their haunts, and there are many scenic spots to visit nearby, including Lake Windermere (5 miles). Sleeping four guests across two rooms and welcoming two of your four-legged friends, head out for adventures with all the family or reunite with friends at this humble abode.

Stepping inside, hang up coats and store boots in the hall. For a freshen up and a warming mug of tea, the shower room and kitchen both sit on the ground floor so you can feel refreshed before heading upstairs. Exposed walls and beams add character to the kitchen, making it a lovely place in which to spend time experimenting with flavours or cooking up family favourites; after plating up at the table, take a tipple or two outside and bask in the last of the warm air. Upstairs, in the lounge, you can get cosy on the two beautiful sofas the wood burner-effect electric fire throws heat into the space. Rich in colour, and with a comfortable sofa, the snug leads off from the lounge and is a great quiet spot in which to watch a film or curl up with a book. With a bedroom on each floor, rest your head and enjoy a truly peaceful night’s sleep. There is roadside parking available and two permits allocated.

Stroll the winding streets of Hawkshead and pop into one of the cafes or pubs for a bite to eat or a morning coffee before visiting the National Trust’s Beatrix Potter Gallery and Hawkshead (less than a mile) and Hill Top (2.5 miles) for a family-friendly day out. For a day on the water, this home is wonderfully located just 5 miles from the largest lake in England, Lake Windermere.

Wouldnt stay again - definitely do not advise coming here with children as the stairs and steps were a constant worry with a toddler. Cleanliness was generally poor and bathrooms in particular werent great. Smell and feel of damp all over, any washing ended up smelling and bedsheets felt wet, awful to sleep in. Weird to have too small sheets for thRead moree bed, had to huddle in the middle to get covered. Kitchen randomly stocked, huge table in a small space and not big enough for four. Hide

Cottage in lovely village, decent cooking facilities in cottage, only one hotel serving food in the village and it was necessary to book a few days in advance which was a shame. The stairs in the cottage were very steep and on a curve, sadly there was no handrail, so it was fairly treacherous to go up and down . When we were there in early June we Read morecouldn't turn the heating off, which made the house way too warm for a decent sleep. Hide

We did enjoy our stay here however It's definitely small, more suitable for 2 people. We are 3 adults and found it a squeeze, even the photos on the site only show 3 chairs around the kitchen tabl. The outdoor space needs a lot of TLC. In a great location. Kitchen well equipped. Sofas not comfy. Didn't really use the snug. Not much wardrobe space aRead morend no coat hangers in the wardrobe. Just came back from this cottage, the position was absolutely fab, but the size of the cottage did let it down. Pictures made the cottage look much bigger. We thought far too small for 4 adults. The kitchen lacked equipment, no chopping board or grater. Only has front door no back door, access to garden via front door , then to the side. One bonus Read morewas the beds were so comfortable, but wouldn't stay here again. Hide
