The thriving market town of Keswick (4 miles) is home to the Theatre by the Lake, The Puzzling Place and the Derwent Pencil Museum, and makes a great base for a range of activities including kayaking, mountain biking, climbing and ghyll scrambling. Local attractions include Whinlatter Forest Park (4.5 miles), the Lakes Distillery, Black Moss Pot and Honister Slate Mine (all within 9.5 miles).
