Situated on a working farm at the foot of Blencathra, this cosy stone-built bothy makes a handy, relaxing and friendly bolthole for two guests. This is a wonderful base for walkers, climbers and cyclists, with Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake to the west, Ullswater to the south, and the Mell Fells to the east.

A couple of steps lead up to the cottage’s stable door which leads into the cosy, bright and cheerful open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Featuring underfloor heating throughout, this is an ideal space to relax in at the end of an exhilarating day exploring the surrounding fells, lakes and woodlands. You can snuggle up with a movie or a good book in the lounge or enjoy a snack or well-earned meal in the comfortable dining area. The kitchen has a useful range of equipment including a microwave and small fridge. A charming sleeping area is behind the main room, featuring a double bed, along with a handy shower room. Opening the stable door, you will have a wonderful view over St John’s in the Vale.

The bothy is close to the picturesque village of Threlkeld (1.5 miles), with its friendly pubs and tearooms. Climbers and walkers can attempt the peaks of Great Mell Fell, Little Mell Fell, Skiddaw and Helvellyn (all within 12 miles). Other local attractions include Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum, Aira Force Waterfall near Ullswater, Mirehouse and Gardens (all within 9 miles) and Castlerigg Stone Circle on the outskirts of Keswick. Broken underfloor heating means its impossible to cool down. Great location, clean and tidy. Wi-Fi is a really weak connection. Shower and bathroom small but really nice.

Lovely location for a walk up and around Blencartha. Very small space in the bothy so not ideal for a relaxing stay indoors, but absolutely fine for a place to sleep and get refreshed.

Basic accommodation only really suitable for a couple of nights. I would not consider it dog friendly as no secure outside space for a dog.Lead only to a strip of grass opposite. As others have stated you can hear people above and next door.
