After a hellish day of our car breaking down on the A1 on the way to a holiday in Cockermouth, just to find out there had been a misunderstanding and we lost our home to another couple. We booked ducklings retreat on the side of the road waiting for AA. The price, the place and location were perfect. Its a short walk along the road to get to a locaRead morel shop and pub. It has all essentials including a very nice touch with a bottle of bubbly. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Will be back Hide

Pleasant, clean and comfortable cottage in a quiet location with excellent access to southern Cumbria. Very nice bathroom and comfortable bed. Helpful caretaker quickly responded to a faulty tap.

We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. It is located in a lovely peaceful setting. The allocated car parking and the seating area in the courtyard was great. The walk into the village along the road was a fairly brisk 20 minute walk.

One of the best self catering facilities we've stayed in, everything we needed, very peaceful, friendly staff, very clean.

A lovely cottage in a lovely location. It is a little further than the advertised walk to the village & pubs & restaurants. There is a footpath across the fields that would be no good in bad weather otherwise you have to walk along a rather busy road with no footpath.

Ducklings Retreat- Lovely place to stay... bit out of way if you are not mobile as walk to village is along a road with no pavements or you can go by fields... really though it is a lovely cottage and very peaceful location

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
