We absolutely loved our stay at Ducklings Retreat! The small things like dressing gowns and all of the helpful books/maps were an absolute winner; on top of such a beautiful cottage in an idyllic area. The bluetooth speaker added some home comforts, the bed was amazing and the rain shower even more so. Would highly recommend this to other visitors.Read more The owner even provided some high-vis jackets to ensure our return walk from the local village was as safe as could be down the lanes! This is a fantastically cosy, modern and well equipped one bed upstairs apartment, surrounded by beautiful views of the countryside. It is about a mile away from Cartmel Village, which has a mini supermarket, tea shops, pubs, the Priory and two Michelin star restaurants, which we can recommend. The lakes are stunning; particular favourites UllswateRead morer and Wastwater at the base of Scafell Pike. The train from Grange-over-Sands to Monmouth is also worth a trip. This cottage is a real gem! Hide

This cottage didnt disappoint in any way. It delivered more than expected. The high quality finish and well thought out touches (ducks everywhere and the fantastic soap) made it a home away from home. And the shower was to die for.

After a hellish day of our car breaking down on the A1 on the way to a holiday in Cockermouth, just to find out there had been a misunderstanding and we lost our home to another couple. The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
