The town of Windermere is just 1.5 miles up the road and is well worth a visit too, perhaps walk along the banks of the lake to get there. Further afield you’ll find plenty of fells to summit including The Old Man of Coniston (13.5 miles) and the towering Scafell Pike (12.5 miles) – don’t forget to pack your trusty walking boots.

Great cosy cottage in an excellent location just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Bowness. Beds were very comfy and the kitchen was modern and well equipped (the provision of kids crockery and cutlery was a welcome touch). Would definitely recommend to couples or small families.

Our family of 4 ( 2 adults, 12 year old and dog) spent a week at the cottage exploring Windermere and beyond. The cottage is perfectly located a short walk from the centre of Bowness with easy access to lake cruises, shopping etc but is down a quiet track so peaceful. We found the cottage itself very comfortable and well equipped. Plenty of room foRead morer us and the dog. Added bonus was the boot room where we could keep all our wetsuits, hiking gear etc and which was handy for the dog! Hide

Very well stocked with household items EG crockery and cutlery, so you dont have to use the dishwasher too often. Very clean and well furnished. The property is very central with everything within walking distance.

The cottage was delightful, we loved staying in such a beautiful old property and that there were so many original features. Providing Netflix so that we could watch a film in the evening was an unexpected bonus. It was a shame our first impression was marred by the rubbish in the garden but this was rectified and I cant fault the customer service.Read more We were amazed at how quickly the grass grew in places in the garden! All in all it was pretty near perfect, a little gem in a stunning location. Hide

Cottage was fine, parking tight but manageble. Good location. Beds very very soft so if you have a bad back they can be uncomfortable. Because of the age of property floor uneven in places so becareful outside bathroom and infront of window in main bedroom. Otherwise every thing was good. Maybe a tumble might be a help. Would go back again

A lovely spacious cottage in a great location, really ideal if you don't want to use the car whilst away. We stayed as two couples and had plenty of room. The cottage also had a downstairs toilet not listed which we found really handy. The cottage can be hard to spot with a 5pm check in during winter and driveway parking is really only for one car Read moreunless your cars are smaller. Hide

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
