Experience one of the National Park’s very best lakes with a stay here in Bowness-on-Windermere, just a 500-metre walk from Windermere lake itself where boat trips, wild swimming and water sports are on offer. The village is quaint and pretty, visit the famous Beatrix Potter Attraction (0.5 miles) and chose one of many welcoming pubs as your favourite watering hole. The town of Windermere is just 1.5 miles up the road and is well worth a visit too, perhaps walk along the banks of the lake to get there. Further afield you’ll find plenty of fells to summit including The Old Man of Coniston (13.5 miles) and the towering Scafell Pike (12.5 miles) – don’t forget to pack your trusty walking boots.

Handsomely presented with a pretty garden and white-washed façade, this cottage is certain to wow from the moment you arrive. Step inside and discover a contemporary décor with traditional accents including the original wooden beams and slate flooring. A stylish kitchen/diner is a bright and cheerful space in which to prepare meals, complete with a dining table sat by the window. Make use of the electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and microwave to prepare locally sourced produce, clearing everything away into the dishwasher once mealtimes are done. Carry on through the ground floor and into the lounge, an inviting space to spend your evenings. Mid-century inspired seating options face a wood burner and Smart TV – everything you require to stay entertained as day turns to night. Head on upstairs to find two spacious and inviting bedrooms. Both of these rooms are super-king-size with zip-and-link beds, catering for a variety of guest makeups. Both rooms also feature a TV offering the potential for lazy mornings spent lounging in bed. Finally, the property is completed by a sleek and stylish family bathroom with WC and shower over bath.

A lovely spacious cottage in a great location, really ideal if you don't want to use the car whilst away. We stayed as two couples and had plenty of room. The cottage also had a downstairs toilet not listed which we found really handy. The cottage can be hard to spot with a 5pm check in during winter and driveway parking is really only for one car Read moreunless your cars are smaller. Hide

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
