Perfect for special occasions or a family holidays, this beautiful former country house and 17th-century farmhouse can accommodate up to 12 people. Located in the popular village of Hawkshead, with local pubs, shops and restaurants within walking distance, it is also perfectly placed for exploring Lake Windermere. Those with a love of the great outdoors will be in their element, with some superb walks, cycle trails and activities on the doorstep.

This elegant property has been tastefully decorated to create a warm and welcoming home. Guests will be spoilt for choice when picking a spot to relax, with the main lounge boasting comfortable sofas and a cosy open fire. An adjoining TV room, separated by a curtain, gives everyone the option to enjoy a film, while there is also a second lounge which offers additional space to unwind. More formal family meals can be enjoyed in the large dining room, while the impressive and contemporary kitchen is a budding chef’s dream, packed with everything they’ll need. A large boot room is a convenient space too, for storing wet clothes and muddy boots. Stairs lead up to the seven bedrooms, four of which are en-suite, with each designed in neutral tones to create a restful place to sleep. Step outside and fire up the BBQ in the patio garden, while the kids let off some steam.

Celebrated for its winding streets and literary heritage, Hawkshead is a lovely place to wander. Don’t miss the Beatrix Potter Gallery, where you can view some of her early illustrations. Take a walk around Lake Windermere (5 miles) or Coniston Water (4.5 miles), hop on a pleasure boat or try out paddle boarding or canoeing. Grizedale Forest (3.5 miles) is a great family day out, with high-ropes courses, woodland walks and a sculpture trail.

The age ranges in our party of 9 were 3 to 70, we also had 2 pianists with us. The 3 year old very much enjoyed the bonus of the rocking horse he also thought hide and seek was a good game to play in the numerous rooms. We had some delightful music playing and singing. We really enjoyed our stay here, celebrating my mums 70th birthday.The house was ideal for our party of 12 with small children. There is plenty of space with 3 sitting areas and a lounge with t.v and DVD player.The house is well placed in the heart of the village and a short drive away to all the main lake towns. We had a lovely meal in the Kings ARead morerms. The kids enjoyed Brookhole House which had lots of activities and a great playground. Grizedale forest was only 10 mins away. Hide

A nice, quiet location within a stone's throw of Hawkshead centre, this is a spacious property perfect for families or groups of friends. Location almost ideal, with shops and restaurants within yards, and walks to Latterbarrow, Wray Castle and Grizedale without using car. Greenbank was an excellent choice for our annual reunion with university friends. Everyone had their own en-suite or bathroom and the downstairs accommodation was second-to-none. The boot room and laundry room were a bonus and there were plenty of comfortable sofas for us all. We've recently enjoyed a fantastic stay at Greenbank. For 3 families together with 7 kids the supplies of the kitchen and dining room were plentiful. The layout downstairs worked for us enabling the kids to have movie night whilst we adults could choose to join them or not by the connecting lounge. Two fridges is a must and was most welcome, with aRead more useful utility room and boot room. The only downside was the upstairs needed updating. We stayed for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the area. The house was brilliant and suited our needs perfectly. There was space for all to sit together or in groups if they wanted to. Cottage in fabulous location. Plenty of room for 10/12 people although not for 6 couples as there are 2 single bedrooms. More than enough pots and pans if you want to eat in although not necessary as there are 4 wonderful pubs serving good food within a couple of hundred yards

Greenbank is a lovely house with ample space to relax & unwind. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped -- with far more utensils than I've ever seen in other rental properties! The book shelves are crammed with a veritable library: not only books, but games, puzzles, DVDs; so that, if it rained all week, you couldn't get bored!

While not the most luxurious cottage we have stayed in, it is possibly the most practical with its large boot room and laundry area, well equipped kitchen and lots of shower rooms which made it excellent for our large groups. The location - 2 mins from a well stocked Coop and multiple pubs and cafes added to its convenience.
