Enter the house from a stone terrace and step into the stone-flagged hallway, and head through to the reception rooms. With two living rooms to choose from, teens and adults can enjoy some privacy when it is required. The snug has a charming window seat with a view to the fells, perfect for settling down with a book, with a comfortable sofa and two armchairs surrounding a wood burner ideal for cosy evenings in. The large living room has a huge open fire set into a deep fireplace and a comfortable sofa and two armchairs perfect for curling up for a movie night after a busy day. The dining room is a marvellous place to mull over your Lake District days, gathering together to enjoy sociable mealtimes. The bright, farmhouse kitchen has lovely garden and fell views and an Aga, a large built-in fridge, dishwasher and microwave with the wooden table ideal for a sociable cup of tea in the morning. A hallway leads to the back door where there's plenty of space for coats, and a WC and cloakroom. The utility room is in the outhouse and has a washing machine and drying facilities. Up the wide corner staircase to the first floor, you’ll find three spacious, characterful bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom has a king-size, four-poster bed, two elegant armchairs, two window seats overlooking the garden and an en-suite bathroom. The two twin rooms both have ample storage and enjoy lovely views of the garden and courtyard. The family bathroom has ornate tiles and a shower over the bath.

Outside in the grounds, there is a choice of places to explore that benefit from the sunshine at all times of the day. At the front, there is a tiered formal garden while at the rear and sides there are large lawns. The raised sandstone terrace has garden furniture and is perfect for dining alfresco with glorious views of the Caldbeck fells. The property is delightful. As noted in a previous review, it is next to a working farm but it is barely noticeable and should not stop anyone selecting this property. The owners appear to have thought of everything!

A very unique home and even better than the photos. Very spacious with a well stocked kitchen and lots of character. The large enclosed garden was great for us and our dog, especially with the weather being so hot and sunny. We had a great couple of weeks.

We had a wonderful week at Hewthwaite Hall. Everything is exactly as described, and the house is very well-kept and has everything youd need. Next door to a working farm so you can enjoy cows mooing and glorious fresh air. Very quiet area so its perfect if you want to completely switch off, but also not far from all shops and pubs youd need. We felRead moret completely at home in such a peaceful and beautiful setting. We are family with four young children and a dog, and everyone was beyond happy. Hide

Fascinating historical house with a cosy feel and plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. Clean, plenty of kitchen equipment, comfy furniture, internet is slow but at least present and fine for checking websites and the odd YouTube video. We arrived when it was very, very cold and there were issues with heating and the water pipes temporarily, butRead more the owners did a great job of helping us out by providing electric heaters and bottled water. A really special, unique place! Hide

Beautiful, historic house, full of character. Convenient location but still a little off the beaten tourist track, a rarity in the Lake District these days. Lovely grounds - but really can't be described as 'enclosed garden' as on the website. Plenty of opportunities for a small dog, or a small child, to escape!

The house is a real gem, right our of the pages of a Jane Austen novel with a wonderful eclectic mix of art work to admire. The garden is fantastic to explore and the patio area a beautiful suntrap. The four poster bed is amazingly comfortable. We would definitely love to return to Hewthwaite Hall, a warm and cosy holiday cottage.

Beautiful property in a fabulous location. Excellent if you have dogs or children as totally enclosed. The stairs are not ideal for someone unstable on their feet with mobility issues, but they are typical of an old property. Everything we needed was there.
