Explore this lesser-known pocket of the Lake District National Park with this delightful retreat just 2 miles from Haweswater Reservoir.

Nestled in the tranquil village of Bampton in a small complex of similar picturesque cottages, this property is just 0.5 miles from the local pub, Post Office, garage and shop in neighbouring Bampton. Also just 2 miles away is the mysterious Haweswater Reservoir, home to red squirrels, birds of prey, badgers and peaceful picnic spots. Don your walking boots to follow the long craggy ridge to High Street, Kidsty Pike and Garburn Pass, or stroll around the reservoir of Wet Sleddale, 8 miles away. For supplies, drive 10 miles north to Penrith to browse its excellent selection of independent shops and eateries or to discover local history visit Lowther Castle, just 5.5 miles away.

Inside, this property is brimming with original charm. Cook and dine in the light and airy traditional kitchen, equipped with a fan oven, electric hobs, dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer and farmhouse table. After long days on foot, sink into the sofas and relax and unwind in front of the roaring wood burner in the cosy lounge. With a TV and DVD player, plus a delightful window seat, this is a pleasant room in which to relax both day and night. A wide curved period staircase with uneven floorboards leads up to the bedrooms. There's an impressive king-size master bedroom with an en-suite shower room and wooden window seat for your morning coffee admiring the views. The second bedroom is a twin with river views. The family bathroom with shower over the bath completes the accommodation.

Outside, the large garden offers multiple spots for al fresco dining and relaxing in the sunshine. Browse the selection of fruit trees or enjoy a game of table football in the shed. Meanwhile, the tree house makes a great hiding place from the parents. There is off-road parking and storage for bikes or kayaks in the shed.

Cottage inside is perfect, spacious and welcoming. Excellent heating which was important as we stayed in February. Bed is comfy. Back garden is very big, the dogs loved it! It was very quiet despite the cottage being terraced with 2 other properties. There is no phone signal if youre with Vodafone anywhere in cottage and not in village either so beRead more prepared to be off grid! The cottage has great WiFi coverage. Lovely stay. A very good period cottage in better condition than I had expected very comfortable and warm we will visit again. Kitchen is very well equipped large refrigerator .

Had a lovely week at Iona,felt at home straight away and our Lab enjoyed the large garden.Great walks direct from the cottage with the Mardale Inn just down the road serving great food which we would recommend.We would definitely return.

Super stay with the lakes living up to it reputation with gales and floods but all part of the experience. Cottage was warm throughout and great garden for dogs but might not be completly secure though. Beware car is parked some way from the cottage so carrying luggage requires some leg work. Keswick Derwent waters fantastic, about 45min drive and Read morepenrith 10 miles. Hawswater can do a long walk for the day from the cottage Local pub variable opening times best to walk there but only 10min away Hide

Amazing garden for your doggys and kids well equipped cottage near to the local pub very quiet if youre after a relaxing holiday would recommend to anybody had an amazing time we have a large dog and the garden was very secure for him will be returning as we loved it that much

Iona Cottage is in a good location with lovely walks near by. We ate a lovely meal at the Mardale Inn which is a short walk from the property. Unfortunately what could have been a lovely holiday was let down by the cottage being very unclean and one of the bedrooms having damp walls. We enjoyed playing darts in the games room but were unable to plaRead morey table football as it was broken. This is a lovely cottage in a delightful part of the Lake District. There are plenty of local walks that can be taken direct from the house, and more strenuous mountain-climbing walks are available a short drive away. The village of Bampton has a strong community, with a pub, shop, church and even a petrol station!

Iona Cottage is one of the best properties we've ever stayed in and we would love to return. The beds and seating are very comfortable, the facilities are good, and the cottage has plenty of character. The location is perfect - it's so quiet & there are plenty of good walks all around without having to drive. The garden is delightful too.

Iona Cottage is perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday. The large enclosed garden is perfect for the dogs. The weather was hot and we spent time sat outside the beautiful garden. If you want a relaxing holiday in a comfortable rustic setting this is the place to stay. Situated on the edge of the Lake District the scenery is stunning with the lakes 20Read more to 30 minutes away. Shap is just a short drive away, which is good for picking up provisions and the M6 about 6 miles from Cottage. Enjoy! Hide

This was our 2nd visit to Iona Cottage. We just love the location; the cottage is a really comfortable base to visit the Lakes. Our dogs love the secure garden. Hopefully we will visit again in the near future.

Cottage is in a lovely, secluded area which meant we were able to have a complete break from everything. The cottage is absolutely lovely, very clean and well maintained. The games room was used frequently by my husband and son and his dog loved the back garden. Will definitely be booking again.

We really enjoyed our second visit to Iona Cottage. It is a cosy comfortable cottage. The large garden is ideal for the children and dog and there are great local walks. We enjoyed a trip to the Adventure Playground at Lowther Castle with a delicious lunch in the cafe. We also enjoyed a walk up Hallin Fell with fantastic views of Ullswater.

A spacious, comfortable and well equipped cottage ideally suited for four people. There is a good sized garden for two active dogs. A great place to relax and unwind.

This was our second visit to Iona Cottage and it felt like coming home. We had a wonderful week exploring Haweswater and beyond. A gorgeous cottage, with fantastic views and dreamy window seats. I hope we can return next year for more adventures!

The cottage was 15 mins from Lowther, perfect for us but a bit of a drive to anywhere else. That was perfect as the peace and quiet was magical. A stunning cottage, modern with traditional features. Everything we could Want or need. The garden was superb! The summer house and tree house kept the kids entertained. Stayed for 2 weeks, 2 adults, teenager 2 dogs. Apart from creaky floorboards (which is in keeping with the cottage, and I loved) everything was perfect. Kitchen was well appointed, fridge/freezer big, and the garden - ah, the garden. It is the garden of my dreams. Secure for the dogs, and massive. Lovely cottage, well appointed and fabulous enclosed garden for dog. Nothing close by except a small shop so need to be prepared to drive to see the sights or visit the pub. Very quiet & peaceful suited us perfectly.

Cottage charming, comfortable and well appointed. Garden was safe and excellent for dogs/kids. We had great weather and it was lovely just to sit and relax in. Narrow path from parking space to door of cottage made carrying luggage etc difficult. Both toilets up a steep staircase so could be tricky for someone with mobility problems.
