Pretty, traditional cottage enjoying a tranquil countryside location, and yet still within walking distance to pubs and shops in the village of Hawkshead.

Packed with traditional features and old-world charm, this fantastic cottage is situated on a quiet lane on the edge of the village of Hawkshead. Enjoying a peaceful, rural location, it also offers easy access to many scenic walks and trails in the surrounding area. Sleeping up to four people and their two dogs, it’s a memorable retreat for a couple or for a family break.

This pretty property has retained many period features which, combined with sumptuous furnishings, makes for a welcoming home. The cosy lounge is a haven for relaxation, with a warming wood burner and comfortable sofas to curl up on after a busy day of exploring the Lakes. The contemporary kitchen/diner provides a stylish space to put your cooking skills into action, while the wood table is a super spot for everyone to enjoy a meal and discuss the next day’s activities. Enjoy a restful night’s sleep in the two inviting bedrooms, before waking up to those gorgeous views from the window. The property has an unusual woodland garden with slate paths meandering between the trees. Unwind with a glass of wine on the large patio area and take in those views, while the children and dogs play to their hearts’ content.

Shops, pubs and a restaurant are all within walking distance of the property, adding to its convenience. Lake Windermere (5 miles) has something to suit every mood, with some great walks as well as many boat trips which come and go throughout the day. While there, follow the footpath which leads to Claife Heights, a purpose-built vantage point which looks over the lake. For something the whole family will enjoy, Grizedale Forest (3.5 miles) offers woodland walks, sculpture trails and even Segway riding.

Comfortable cottage in wonderful location. Lots of walks on your doorstep. Easy 10 min walk to Hawkshead village across fields for pubs, cafes and local co-op. Very quiet location, although would depend on neighbours as is a larger rental property.

This cottage was perfect for our needs - a great location close to Hawkshead and its amenities and great walks for the dogs from the door. Sadly way too expensive going forward to book again.

We found the cottage to be very well appointed. It is so cosy, very warm without the need for the log fire to be on every night! The location is also brilliant, having a footpath nearby for easy access to Hawkshead and other walks. The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
