Located in a peaceful position on a working beef and sheep farm, near the market town of Keswick, this fantastic home can sleep up to four people. Follow one of the many local walking trails which lead onto the Blencathra Fells, before returning to unwind in the truck’s fantastic sauna.

Nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this unusual home provides an enjoyable and memorable base for your holiday. The open-plan living space has a range of quirky features, such as a fireman’s pole coming down from the bedroom. The bean bags and comfortable sofa in the lounge provide a cosy spot for everyone to relax, while the sofa can also be converted into a double bed if needed. The compact and well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for family meals, while the dining area is a lovely place to eat together while soaking up the lovely views. Sooth aching muscles in the sauna room, which is next to the kitchen, and followed by a shower room. The kids will love sleeping in the fire engine bedsteads in the twin room, which is on the ground floor, while you head up the ladder to the spacious master bedroom, with the gated, lockable fireman’s pole. Enjoy some al fresco dining on the decked patio, while the children dress up in the fireman’s costumes and play with the truck’s disused hose.

Local pubs and restaurants are 1 mile away, while the market town of Keswick (6.5 miles) has a range of shops and attractions. Take a pleasure boat ride across Derwentwater (8 miles) or try out activities such as climbing, canoeing and kayaking at the Newlands Adventure Centre, 9.5 miles away.

We (2 adults + 2 children) stayed at the Fire Engine in the middle of February. It is a lovely, warm, clean place to stay and we would certainly recommend it to others. The kids loved it, especially the fireman's pole! The White Horse is a great place to eat and Keswick is only a very short drive away - our kids loved The Puzzling Place attraction Read morein the town centre. Hide

We had an absolutely wonderful time, the fire engine is fantastic, the children loved it, especially the fireman's pole!!! the views are excellent and had the weather been better I'm sure we would have walked some of the mountains we saw. We did venture into Keswick to the pencil museum which was great. The Fire engine is warm and welcoming and a rRead moreeal home from home, the added touches of fancy dress outfits for the children really impressed our two!! Lovely bathroom and kitchen facilities. Property is cute but tiny, there is no storage so pack light. Childrens room was cold due to no heating But beautifully decorated. Lovely location and very convenient.

Lovely, quirky little property. Love the fireman pole, it nevee stopped being fun. Perfectly designed little holiday home, although kids beds are on the smaller size, so I wouldn't recommend to over 10s. Lovely location, easy to get to Keswick and surrounding areas. Really loved it.

Absolutely wonderful. Really clean, well kept and unique place in a wonderful part of the Lake District. So much attention to detail, our boys absolutely loved it. Wouldnt hesitate to go back. Clean and pristine throughout, firemans pole is great fun and sauna a nice addition. Kids bedroom does get cold but not a big criticism. Amazing view from frRead moreont and back, play area on site, 5 mins from lovely small village Threkfeld with a great pub (Booking advised), and only 10 mins from Keswick. Hide

The fire engine lodge is the perfect place for a quirky getaway, we booked it for my sons 6th Birthday surprise.. he was blown away! Great location for exploring the North Lakes, clean, well equipped and great fun. The kids beds are very small & our 9 year old just managed to keep comfy. I did wonder if itd be cold, we visited early April.. on the Read morewhole the lodge was warm & cozy, the only area that got chilly was the kids room on a morning, it didnt bother them, they were happily snuggled up! Overall we had a great stay it was a Treat for the kids and they loved having the firemans pole. The red rescue retreat although it has heating is extremely cold on the ground floor and I would not recomend going in the colder months for this reason.

Lovely, quirky property in a great location with superb views of Blencathra to the north, and Clough Head to the south. Pub at Scales within walking distance along roadside footpath. Small property, but with enough equipment. Small beds for kids - our 12 year old was as big as the bed would take. Only downside was that downstairs was cold during the night (end of October). Would recommend taking extra blankets as none were provided.
