Property code: 76579

Cosy styled property in the popular and attractive village of Hawkshead, with easy access to Lake Windermere, Coniston Water and an abundance of eateries and shops to choose from.

Enjoying pride of place in the centre of Hawkshead village, this three-person, one-dog cottage is ideal for couples and small families – with access to both local amenities and beauty spots aplenty. Within half a mile of great local eateries, attractions and – temptingly – a local chocolate factory, you will be well looked after during your stay. And, when you are ready to branch out, you can flit between the wilderness havens of Coniston Water, Esthwaite Water and Windermere, all before returning to put your feet up in front of the warming wood burner.

Set down a quaint cobbled street, this property is accessed via some steep external steps. Inside, you will be immediately greeted by a welcoming open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, framed by beautiful original beams and crowned with a statement exposed stone wall. Decorated in a neutral palette and softened with plump, come-hither seating, the lounge area is particularly appealing – especially attractive for taking the weight off tired legs after hours of adventuring. And, if you want to take a night off wining and dining in the town, the kitchen has everything you could need for cooking at home. Down some steps into the hallway, you will find a family bathroom and two bedrooms.

Outside and down a set of steep steps, there is a small seating area with a table and chairs, great for morning coffees. That said, we’re sure you won’t be able to resist heading further afield to explore. One of Cumbria’s most famous beauty spots, Tarn Hows (2 miles) is not to be missed, while a walk to the summit of Latterbarrow (1.5 miles) will reward hikers with incredible views. Esthwaite Water (1.5 miles) can be reached on foot by a public footpath, while just 3 miles away is Grizedale with its sprawling forest, home to some 9,000 acres and the award-winning Sculpture Trail.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 single
  • 1 bathroom
  • Gas oven and hob, microwave and fridge

  • Electric and central heating included

Nice cottage, compact and lovely and warm. Just the steps outside lethal in the rain and as we experienced lots of rain in the lakes, still very beautiful. Because of the steps would pick a different cottage next time.

This is a delightful loft the steps are extremely slippery when wet, some kind of non slip gravel tape would prevent risk of falling .

A lovely place in a fantastic location! Some of the reviews say the loft is somewhat dated but we didn't find this; some of the equipment and appliances are a little old but they all work, and part of the charm of a place like this is it's traditional features. Cottage in lovely location, however it's tired, it's crying out for a little repair work to make it exceptional. Oven was broken, bathroom felt close to needing replacement. Bedrooms very comfy though! If you plan to use the place just to sleep/wash (as we did) then great. Just eat out! And bring your own milk, soap, toilet roll etc.
