A fine example of an Arts and Crafts cottage, located in the village of Near Sawrey, the home of Beatrix Potter and a short distance from Lake Windermere.

This beautiful and charming property, built at the turn of the nineteenth century, is the end cottage in a row of three, built to reflect the style of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Situated between Coniston Water and Lake Windermere in the delightful little hamlet of Far Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her famous stories, the cottage is also close to Hawkshead, one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District. Nearby is Esthwaite Water, a fantastic fishing lake which also inspired Wordsworth. Ambleside, Coniston, Grizedale and Grasmere are within easy reach, and Windermere and Bowness are a short ferry ride away. With breath-taking scenery and activities for the whole family, this idyllic spot guarantees a memorable holiday.

On entering this beautiful cottage via the timber porch, you will find yourself in the cosy and welcoming lounge, where you will find window seats, a TV, DVD, CD, and a lovely open fire. Heading into the cottage style kitchen you will find everything you may need including an oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Exploring further, there is a traditional dining room, ideal for when you want to sit down to a special meal. There is also a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a downstairs WC. Heading upstairs, you will find the comfortable and attractive master bedroom with double bed. There is also a twin room, with lovely views of the few surrounding cottages, and glimpses of the lake. The bathroom offers a bath, separate shower cubicle and WC.

Stepping outside, you will find a pretty traditional cottage garden with lawn to the front of the cottage towards the quiet country lane. The gravel drive also creates a secluded patio area to the side of the cottage. Bordered by stone walls and overhanging trees, the garden is an ideal space for children to play and adults to barbecue and relax. There is also an acre of woodland behind the cottage for you to explore. There is off-road parking available for two cars, and there is space for bike storage.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

This property has almost no mobile signal and no wifi, so be prepared to be cut off. The house is ready for a full refurb and is getting below what I would call acceptable especially as it's not cheap. On the up side it's a lovely location with walks straight oRead moreut of the back garden and the local pub food is a must and must be booked. The firewood was damp so really hard to light which spoils the fun a bit. Hide

Very charming an cosy cottage, with plenty of space and well equipped. Well situated in a quiet location with loads of good walks from the doorstep, but still close enough to some good dog-friendly pubs and the little town of Hawkshead. The welcome basket was definitely a bonus, and made us feel very welcome and settled!

The cottage is in a quiet lane, just down from Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's house. There is a pub in the village. Inside, it is comfortable. We bring two dogs, which is why we come here. We have stayed here four times.
