The owners of the bothy are very thoughtful - there was a bowl, towel and biscuits laid out for our dog, wine and chocolate mints on the laid table and a selection of hundreds of films on DVD. We expected the situation to be a quiet country lane. It is opposite High Borrans outdoor education centre - lots of noisy kids that evening. Next morning, the lane was very busy with large groups of mountain bikers, joggers and fast traffic. It is also next to a working farm. Not for us. We stayed one night only.

Had a great week staying in the The Bothy it is comfortable, cosy but well-furnished and in a quiet location, convenient for visiting different parts of the Lake District. Stairs are steep. Enjoyed the wine and still enjoying the chocolates a week after leaving.

A beautiful location, well equipped cottage. It is small but well laid out inside. The stairs are more like a ladder so probably not the best choice for the elderly. Everything we needed was there and a lovely welcome with the table laid, wine and after dinner mints. Highly recommend. They had even left out a towel and dog treats for our boy

Super clean and with everything you could need. Appreciated the provision of fresh milk and a lovely bottle of wine. Our boarder 'Pip' was very impressed with her supply of dog biscuits and the spare dog towel came in most handy, very thoughtful.

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
