Escape to the Cumbrian countryside and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Northern Fells, choosing this delightful couples retreat as the exclusive base for your adventures.

Rustic on the outside and stylish on the inside, this charming property once served as a hayloft for a former pub. Today, it is an excellent retreat for couples or two friends seeking a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding countryside and popular market towns. Venture into Greystoke Forest for scenic woodland strolls, or satisfy your thirst for adventure with a challenging climb up Carrock Fell from a starting point 6 miles away. Change pace and drive the 14.5-mile route to Carlisle to soak up the cosmopolitan vibe of this bustling city that boasts its own castle, museums and array of pubs, bars and bistros. Marvel at the superb architecture of the stunning cathedral, board a steam train on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, or simply kick back and relax over a coffee in one of the cafes.

To enter the property step past the original stone-mounting block and through the characterful wooden door to find the open-plan living space, where you can leave your coats in the hanging space provided. With a kitchen area to one end and a cosy lounge area at the other, this room is bright and colourful with everything you need to relax, including a handy Smart TV, DVD and MP3 docking station for evening entertainment. There is an electric oven, hob, microwave and a fridge with an icebox compartment to meet all your culinary needs, and the handy dining table has seating for four. Upstairs, the bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, timber beams and an exposed stone wall, and has been furnished with a king-size zip-and-link bed that can be converted into a twin on request. Completing the property is an attractive en-suite wet room-style shower room with a WC.

Your private balcony is accessed via the bedroom and offers sweeping views of your surroundings. Pour a drink and sink back on the seats to appreciate the vistas, looking out across the fells towards the peaks of Carrock Fell, Blencathra and High Pike. There is parking for one car on the driveway that’s shared with the owners.

This is a lovely property with beautiful views from the upstairs. Good location for getting out and about, with M6 and A66 within a short drive, but set in the peace of the countryside. It is equipped with everything you need for self catering. Suzanne and Dennis are friendly helpful hosts.

Loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone. The house was clean and tidy, felt very welcome. The location was great for being rural and only a short drive to local villages with pubs and not far from Penrith which has everything else you will need.

This cottage is perfect for 2 people who want to visit the lake district area but stay away from the tourist parts. Keswick is 15-20 mins drive with Kendal approx. 45 mins. Nearest lake is Ullswater which has steamboat trips across the lake (ideal for viewing the fantastic scenery). Nearest pub/restaurant (4 mins in car/2 miles approx.) is The Dog Read more& Gun which serves excellent food (booking advisable). I would thoroughly recommend this property and would consider it exceptional value for money. Hide

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
