Attractive countryside retreat just minutes from Lake Windermere and close to the stunning Wray Castle.

This beautiful cottage is situated on the little lane which leads from the rural village of High Wray down to the spectacular yet serene Lake Windermere. Hawkshead, one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District, is just two miles away. A thriving village a couple of miles from Coniston Water, in Hawkshead you can find the Beatrix Potter Gallery as well as tearooms, pubs and gift shops. Esthwaite Water is another pretty lake found nearby which inspired the works of Wordsworth. Towns to visit in the local area include Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, as well as Grizedale Forest. Bowness and Windermere can also be reached via a short ferry ride.

On entering this delightful cottage you will find yourself in the cosy and welcoming lounge with its exposed beams, open fireplace and old world charm, where you can relax in front of the open fire or snuggle down and watch the TV or use the DVD or CD. Next to the lounge you will find the elegant and stylish dining room, which is ideal when sitting down to a special meal, with seating for four and a hi-fi. Exploring further, you will find an attractive and airy kitchen/breakfast room. The breakfast area is ideal for snacks, and can be warmed by a traditional wood burner. The kitchen is equipped with everything you may need during your stay including a large range oven with gas hob and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge/freezer. French windows lead out from this lovely room onto the sunny patio. Passing back through the lounge, you will find an additional snug with wood burner and a selection of books to enjoy. The washing machine is located in a cupboard off this room. Going upstairs you will find two cosy bedrooms. The attractive double is full of character with exposed beams and slate window sills, while the comfy twin bedroom overlooks the garden. The bathroom has a roll-top bath, large separate shower and WC.

Stepping outside, you will find a large and enclosed south-facing lawn garden which leads up to the woodlands. In a separate area at the rear of the cottage, there is a little stream which cascades over a series of waterfalls where small children and dogs will need supervision. There is off-road parking available for four cars to the rear of the cottage.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

The Lodge is a delightful cottage in a beautiful position. Spacious and well equipped with a large, enclosed garden that is perfect for dog owners. We thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay. It is well placed for visiting all the places of interest around Windermere and beyond.

This cottage was a lovely place to stay with two dogs in comfort. It was an easy 10 minute walk down to the path around Windermere Lake and walking round to Castle Wray was a gentle 1 -2 hour walk around the lake. The garden is a lovely size, with plenty of outdoor seating and was lovely and quiet.

A very interesting house in a beautiful setting with a big garden which is safely enclosed and which our dog loved. It's only a short walk down to Lake Windermere with walks in at least three directions once you reach the shore . A perfect place for a restful holiday. The team in Hawkshead are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended

We had a really lovely time at the cottage and it was in an ideal location for us! If you have an infant, bear in mind that there isnt a stair gate and the stairs are quite treacherous! Overall we had a good week but we feel that the cottage needs some TLC in several areas. It was in a remote location which was nice and it was an easy walk to the shore of Lake Windermere and Wray Castle.

We loved the quiet location of the cottage, with a nice circular stroll down to the lake, along the waterfront, and then back up across the fields to the village. The kitchen was fabulous, well-equipped, and spacious, and we all enjoyed the roll top bath in the evenings. The only two downsides for us were that the cold water pressure was very poor,Read more particularly in the evenings, making the shower very difficult to use, and the main living room smelt very strongly of dogs. Fabulous location on the quieter side of Lake Windermere and Wray Castle, very close to the lake with great local walks. The cottage is comfy, homely and well equipped. We felt it suited 2 adults or a family of 4 rather than 4 adults (due to smallish sofas in living room and small second bedroom). Cosy in winter with open fire and woodburners (coalRead more provided). Great enclosed garden perfect for dogs (although beware lowish walls if you have an escape artist). Hide

Perfect cottage and location for peace and quiet. Car is a necessity to see the local villages. Walks are great from the cottage to the lake, quite steep in places, correct boots are an essential. Dogs loved it, the garden was amazing and enclosed. Beautiful views and scenery. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.
