Set in a serene Lake District setting, this charming dog-friendly cottage has an enviable countryside location just a mile from Bowness Pier on lake Windermere.

This elegant holiday property is situated on a country estate just above lake Windermere. Sleeping four guests, it’s ideal for families who want to explore the beauty of the southern lakes of Cumbria. Venture down to the shores of Bowness and Windermere villages where you’ll find gorgeous gift shops, welcoming pubs and restaurants with delicious meals to enjoy, while children will beg to visit The World of Beatrix Potter attraction in Bowness. Hop on two wheels and explore the nearby village of Ambleside (7.5 miles), or venture to Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage in the picture-postcard village of Grasmere (11 miles). Enjoy a sunset cruise on Windermere before retreating to your beautiful holiday cottage.

Step inside the hall of this charming retreat with a unique pretty design and layout. Dating back to the 1800s, this villa-style lodge is set on a private country estate. On the ground floor, you’ll discover the kitchen, dining room, and a downstairs cloakroom with a WC. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen which features an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and a washing machine. Catch up on the day and enjoy home-cooked meals around the circular dining table. Venture upstairs to find the family bathroom with a bath, separate shower, and WC; the living room; and two beautiful bedrooms made up of a double and a twin. After a busy day of adventures, settle into cosy seating by the warmth of the wood burner, set into a traditional slate hearth with a timber mantle, in the sunny seven-sided living room which has cosy seating and woodland views, plus a TV, CD player with radio, books and DVDs. Enjoy slumbers in the pretty double bedroom with a beautiful dresser and garden views, and the cosy twin bedroom with ample storage and garden views. There’s also a contemporary-style family bathroom with a bath, separate shower, and WC.

Outside, there’s a spacious garden surrounding the lodge, a seated patio area for al fresco afternoons, plus access to a riverside walk. There’s a pub within 1 mile and a shop nearby (1.5 miles).

  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £25. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Absolutely gorgeous, characterful property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Perfect location for Windermere (not walking distance but 2mins drive). Beautiful peaceful surroundings and cottage has everything you might need.

Recently returned from a wonderful week in Bowness on Windermere. The cottage was clean and tidy, and had all the necessary kitchen equipment/utensils. We required the high chair and travel cot which met our expectations. We loved the location. It was hard work pushing the pushchair up those hills every evening. Just a thought if someone struggles Read morewith mobility, if youre not using the car, it may be a little tiring. Only a short walk to some fab pubs/cafes. Defs recommend and will be returning Hide

This is our second stay at Matson Lodge and it was as good as the first time. It really is like a home from home and is really well equipped, with all you could need for a holiday. We will be booking another stay at the Lodge in the near future as the walks from the property are truly amazing, with fantastic views.

Location is good and suited our expectations. Some improvement could be undertaken in terms of more comfortable beds and lounge seating. However, dog walking area was second to none. Lovely views and outdoor seating. Gardens appropriate for dogs.

This is the second time we have stayed here and really enjoyed it again. Very comfy and spacious with plenty of parking. Really convenient for town and very close to a lovely pub. Another excellent stay thank you for having us.

Comfy cottage with good facilities but found small double hard-ish bed distracted from the rest of a good holiday. Great location for nearby country walks but challenging if you like out in evening for drinks or dinner unless you're good on very steep hill on return!

Only slight downside for us personally was that the garden was not fully enclosed and we did not feel comfortable letting our dog out on her own. Other than that the cottage and location is a perfect 10.

Cottage was exceptional really enjoyed our stay, location amazing great walks around cottage enjoyed every minute of our stay and so did the dog, hope to return in the near future. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a chill and relaxing break.

Beautiful comfortable and extremely clean lodge set in a stunning location. It was so peaceful at the lodge and its in an ideal location to access amazing walks and to get into bowness. We would definitely book to stay here again.
