This cottage is full of character and makes a wonderful base for small families and couples. On the fringes of the Lake District, you’ll have walking opportunities in abundance and the sandy shores of the Solway Coast are just 7miles away.

The cosy cottage, in the quaint village of Papcastle, is deceptively spacious and has a charming outdoor area. After a day of sightseeing, take the 20 minute walk to the attractive market town of Cockermouth which has plenty of good pubs and restaurants. Wander along the tree-lined high street, browse the independent shops and visit William Wordsworth’s childhood home. Lake District highlights, such as Keswick (14 miles) and Buttermere (10 miles) make lovely day trips, along with the beautiful Solway Coast (7 miles). This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has gorgeous beaches, sand dunes and salt marshes and is a real haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Enter the charming former post office and hang your jackets on the coat stand and park your muddy boots on the shoe rack.

A step leads down from the front door and into the spacious lounge area, which features exposed brickwork, fabulous slate flooring and a cosy electric fire. After a day of exploring, sink into the plump sofa or armchairs to watch the Smart TV or simply observe the world going by through the large window. To the back of the cottage, you’ll find the gorgeous kitchen/diner. This sociable space is the perfect area to come together in the evening to enjoy delicious home-cooked food around the wooden dining table, over a glass of wine or two. The country-style kitchen is decorated in neutral tones and is equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, wine fridge and microwave. You’ll also find a handy washing machine and dishwasher. The area is bathed in natural light, thanks to the large picture window. Completing the ground floor is the family bathroom, which cleverly makes use of space to include a shower over the bath and WC. Heading upstairs you’ll be greeted by two stylish bedrooms, both decorated in calming tones to create the ideal setting for a good night’s sleep. The king-size bedroom has a beautiful ornamental fireplace, as well as ample storage, and can be made up into a twin on request. The light and bright double bedroom is equally charming and has a handy en-suite shower room with WC.

The delightful, gravelled patio is enclosed and is a real sun trap. Enjoy long, lazy BBQs in the sunshine, gathered around the table and chairs. The outhouse can be accessed from the lane that runs behind the property and is ideal for storing bikes and fishing gear. There is off-road parking available for one car in front of the property and additional roadside parking can be found in the village.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well stocked with anything youd possibly need to cook. The beds were comfortable and the road was quiet at night. The outside space was great for our small dog and would have been lovely to sit in had the weather been better. You can walk to Cockermouth in 10-15 minutes and everythingRead more you need is there from pubs to restaurants takeaways and supermarkets. Hide

Very comfortable cottage in a friendly village. The house was warm and cosy, very well equipped with a pleasant small sunny garden where we were able to sit out and have a drink. It was perfect for us with our elderly dog.

A lovely cottage with very comfy beds and clean linen. It was quiet and Cockermouth and the Lakes in easy reach. The cottage was lovely and warm and decorated for Christmas. A welcome pack of goodies and milk and prosecco in the fridge was a thoughtful touch. The bathrooms were very bijou which may not suit everyone.

A well equipped cosy cottage. We were 4 adults and appreciated having two bathrooms. No problem parking our 2 cars, smaller one at the front and could always find space on the road nearby for the other. Location is walkable to Cockermouth and also to the local pub in the other direction which did a great Sunday roast.
