Property code: SZ518

A magical stone cottage for four, situated near the village of Eskdale in the western Lakes, in an ideal position for riverside walks, climbing Scafell Pike and days out to the coast.

Head out on long walks through the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys from this delightful, country conversion in the Lake District. Set in the village of Eskdale, the two-bedroom property sleeps four guests and retains an abundance of character. Venture out on a 3-mile walk to Burnmoor Tarn; explore the Miterdale Valley or walk down to the River Esk, less than 0.5 miles away, to follow the river and find places to dip in pools along the way. Catch the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway from Irton Road Station, less than 100 metres away. Make the 6-mile journey to Ravenglass through spectacular Lake District scenery then have a walk by the sea and perhaps visit Muncaster Castle and Gardens before heading home.

Accessed via a few external steps, enter this charming abode and find yourselves in the open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen with its vaulted ceiling, exposed timbers and airy ambience. Fire up the wood burner in here and settle down to relax for a while after your time out exploring the Lake District. Plan the following day’s activities, watch the TV for a while or enjoy a film on the DVD. When everyone gets hungry, make your way over to the kitchen area, with its electric hob and oven, microwave and washer/dryer, to make dinner. The family bathroom, complete with shower over the bath and WC, is located on the ground-floor. Head upstairs to find a twin bedroom on the first floor with low sloping ceilings, or down a set of stairs to discover a double bedroom on the lower ground floor.

Sit outside on warm days to enjoy a cup of coffee in the seating area and take any children down to the play area which is shared with another cottage on site, less than 100 yards away. There is parking outside the cottage.

Cottage immaculate. Lots of oak and slate. A very high quality cottage. Its not for the disabled tho. I thought the master bedroom on lounge/kitchen floor. The cottage is over 3 levels....... very peaceful. A river running right outside the front door. If you are used to country living and the peace and quiet, this is for you x

The Smithy is well equipped, comfortable and in a lovely quiet location. We loved watching the geese run around the farm yard from the kitchen window. The Smithy and Eskdale are a great location to explore Scafell and Scafell Pike, and other Western Fells. We enjoyed swimming in Wastwater, Ennerdale and the Sea. The Ravenglass railway is a fun way Read moreto spend a rainy afternoon and there's a stop 15 mins walk from the Smithy. Hide
