This charming country cottage is perfect for couples who are keen to explore South Cumbria, including the southern Lakes. Immerse yourselves in the rural tranquillity and enjoy walks in every direction from your front door.

Nestled amongst the hills called the ‘mini Alps’ by locals, this cottage is surrounded by picturesque views and unspoilt Cumbrian countryside. Despite its peaceful location, it’s only 2.5 miles from bustling Ulverston, the birthplace of Stan Laurel, which has a wealth of shops and eateries, and a weekly market. Venturing north into the National Park, you can explore the spectacular surroundings of Coniston Water (6 miles) or more popular Windermere (11 miles). The lovely villages of Hawkshead and Near Sawrey with their Beatrix Potter connections can also be accessed from here. Outdoor enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice, as there’s a range of activities nearby, such as walking, cycling, canoeing, climbing, golf and sailing. Grizedale Forest Park (12 miles) has a number of these on offer.

Bursting with character, this property has been beautifully renovated to ensure original features and natural materials sit alongside contemporary fixtures and fittings to create a comfortable stay. You enter through the porch, where you’ll find a handy seat, a washer/dryer and somewhere to store coats. From here, the inner door leads straight into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner; the exposed beams are charming and the light walls create the feeling of light and space. The lounge has a comfy sofa for two, a TV with Freeview and a selection of books and games for you to enjoy. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you’ll need to cook up a hearty breakfast or a romantic evening meal – including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with ice box, and dishwasher – and the dining table ensures you can dine comfortably. The king-size bedroom is on the same floor and its timeless wooden furniture adds to the country-cottage feel, whilst the en-suite shower room is clean and contemporary.

Outside, there is a small seating area where you can enjoy the evening sun with a glass of wine. There is parking for one car and bike storage available.

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
