Stayed at ullswater retreat for a week in September, the cottage is beautifully done out and in a lovely setting with views out to the lake. Lots of wildlife around too, especially red squirrels! The kitchen was well equipped, it has an Aga with full instructions, there wasn't a microwave though. Lovely large comfy bed , beautiful ensuite with largRead moree bath but nowhere to hang the shower mixer head. Steep steps up to the bedroom which maybe a problem for the elderly or infirm. Hide

The cottage setting was beautiful with wildlife surrounding us such as red squirrel, a variety of birds and also deers. The setting was more ideal for walkers as the pubs and shops were quite a walk away which meant we stayed in the evening. Apart from that the cottage interior was beautiful and clean and we had a glorious stay.

The cottage is beautiful in a stunning location. It has all 2 people need for a relaxing break. Our dog enjoyed it as well. The cottage is on National Trust land, and a Red Squirrel conservation area. We think it would be prudent to let people know this. We saw at least 2 red squirrels on the feeding boxes that are outside of the cottage.

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders.
