Although it boasts contemporary style throughout, it still retains its historic character, and is dotted with original features such as oak beams and old-style flooring. Sleeping four people over two bedrooms and welcoming two canine companions, it’s the ideal accommodation option for small families or groups of friends who want to spend their days discovering the Furness Peninsula or the Lake District National Park, and their evenings BBQ-ing in the garden or chatting around the glowing wood burner in the living room.
Step inside and you’ll immediately notice the effort the owners have made to restore this lovely Lakeland cottage to its former glory. Make your way to the traditional kitchen/diner and cook up a storm for your loved ones, and then get everyone together around the dining table to eat. Alternatively, head out into the garden and fire-up the stone-built BBQ. After dinner, pour yourself a glass of something cool and crisp and watch the stars come out, or head in to the living area to watch your favourite TV shows by the wood-burner. When it’s time for bed, you’ll find a double bedroom on the first floor and a master on the second floor.
Grab your hiking boots and take a stroll to Birkrigg Stone Circle (4 miles), which dates all the way back to between 1700 and 1400 BC. You’ll find the ancient market town of Ulverston just 2 miles away. Take a glass-cutting class at Cumbria Crystal, check out the gin marmalade at Shed 1 Distillery, and take a picture or two at the town’s Laurel and Hardy statue. If you’re there on a Thursday or Saturday, make sure you pick up some tasty treats at the town’s lively street market.
