A cosy Lakeland cottage in a stunning location by the shores of Coniston Water. Perfect for a romantic break to relax or more active adventures the magnificent Lake District has to offer.

Enjoying a stunning location by the shores of Coniston Water, this traditional stable-hands cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple or small family. It’s located on a small country estate and guests benefit from direct access to its private lake shoreline. With plenty of scenic walks on the doorstep as well as the many activities on offer on the lake, this is the ideal choice for those looking for an active break.

This small but perfectly formed cottage is ideal for two but works equally well if you want to bring the children along. Step into the cosy lounge, where a plump sofa and comfy armchair are wonderfully placed for you to sink down after a long day of exploring, while the wood burner adds some extra warmth. The kitchen/diner is traditional in style with a shaker design and all the equipment you’ll need for whipping up a delicious breakfast or evening meal. Stairs from here lead you to the first floor where you’ll find the restful king-size bedroom, decorated in calming, neutral tones, to aid a good night’s sleep. Guests waking up in this room will be treated to those lovely views of the gardens and lake. A small bunk room is ideal for two children, while the bathroom is also on this floor. Relax in the large shared garden to the front of the property, with lots of space to find a quiet spot for some al fresco dining.

Enjoy a picnic and a paddle on the private shore of Coniston Water, which is shared with other properties on the estate. Woodland walks and sculpture trails await you at Grizedale Forest (6 miles), while Coniston village (1.5 miles) is lovely for a meander around the shops and pubs. Head home by hopping on a boat back across the lake.

We stayed at Tent Lodge Cottage to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. It did not disappoint, we had a wonderful time and were sad to leave. Our hosts, Richard and Wendy were just lovely people and very welcoming. The position of this cottage is superb, views are amazing. Highly recommend a stay here and would definitely go back, thank you.

The property is very small but the location was stunning and as the weather was so nice we were outside most of the time anyway. We could have happily stayed much longer, and would absolutely book it for a holiday again.

We had a lovely week at Wetherlam! The cottage is small and fairly basic, but it's hard to imagine a better location, particularly for a family with small children.

The Lake District National Park is a superb choice for a holiday. If you love nature and the great outdoors, the Lake District is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations. Taking up the lion’s share of the north-western county of Cumbria, the region has been popular with visitors since Victorian times, and it’s the only place to find mountains in England. Peace and tranquillity characterise the wonderful Lake District, with 16 lakes, including England’s longest and deepest, there is much to see and do. Visit Coniston Water, Ullswater, Wast Water and Windermere for just a taste of what you can see in the Lake District National Park.

Small towns like Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Glenridding all make for great bases from which to relax and unwind between sojourns into the fantastic natural landscapes of the Lake District National Park. Wildlife and bird lovers can spot all kinds of lesser spotted species in situ, and walking trails reveal some of the very best vistas within English borders. To embellish the experience, you can enjoy some of the country’s cosiest pubs and restaurants, many found in picture-perfect locations.
