Enjoying a stunning location by the shores of Coniston Water, this traditional stable-hands cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple or small family. It’s located on a small country estate and guests benefit from direct access to its private lake shoreline. With plenty of scenic walks on the doorstep as well as the many activities on offer on the lake, this is the ideal choice for those looking for an active break.

This small but perfectly formed cottage is ideal for two but works equally well if you want to bring the children along. Step into the cosy lounge, where a plump sofa and comfy armchair are wonderfully placed for you to sink down after a long day of exploring, while the wood burner adds some extra warmth. The kitchen/diner is traditional in style with a shaker design and all the equipment you’ll need for whipping up a delicious breakfast or evening meal. Stairs from here lead you to the first floor where you’ll find the restful king-size bedroom, decorated in calming, neutral tones, to aid a good night’s sleep. Guests waking up in this room will be treated to those lovely views of the gardens and lake. A small bedroom, perfect for a child while the bathroom is also on this floor. Relax in the large shared garden to the front of the property, with lots of space to find a quiet spot for some al fresco dining.

Enjoy a picnic and a paddle on the private shore of Coniston Water, which is shared with other properties on the estate. Woodland walks and sculpture trails await you at Grizedale Forest (6 miles), while Coniston village (1.5 miles) is lovely for a meander around the shops and pubs. Head home by hopping on a boat back across the lake.

What a week! A gorgeous property in a stunning location. We had the best week and were lucky with the weather. The cottage had everything that we needed. With just a short walk to the lake edge, we spent every afternoon down there. We could not fault our stay, so peaceful, relaxing and a total switch off from everyday life. Definitely a property weRead morell stay again at! Hide

Lovely cottage in a great location. Immaculately clean and very well equipped. Spent a week there in July. The private lake access with 3 jetties was great for our paddle board/ kayak, and just 2 minutes walk from the cottage. Fabulous location with views over Coniston water and Coniston old man in the background. Would definitely recommend.
