The adventure capital of the UK

Whatever kind of holiday adventure or outdoor activity you are looking for, the Lake District is really the best destination for an action-packed adventure holiday. Below is just a small selection of adrenaline-fuelled activities throughout the National Park to tempt you.

Go Ape Grizedale

This treetop adventure allows you to take to the trees and speed down zip slides. Take on an exciting course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and crossings, all set high above the forest floor.

At River Deep Mountain High adventure centre, you take on the ultimate adrenaline challenge. With drops of up to 140ft to abseil, there is also the added value of tunnels and caverns to explore.

Self-drive Forest Segways

Explore Grizedale Forest on two wheels and enjoy the ultimate forest experience on a rugged all-terrain Segway. It’s a totally unique way to tackle the trails in the forest and a great way to get around.

Canoe and Kayak

Explore the lake and islands and watch the wildlife, or perhaps take a guided tour with Windermere Canoe and Kayak. Canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are all available for hire.

Gorge Scrambling

Make your way up the mountainside using the river as your pathway with Total Adventure – a different way to scale the heights of the Lake District. With the help of an expert guide you’ll emerge to some of the most stunning views in England.

Stand-up Paddle Boarding

There are plenty of places to hire these around Windermere and Coniston, including the previously mentioned Windermere Canoe and Kayak. This is currently one of the fastest growing water sports and a relaxed way to explore the waters.

Flyboarding on Lake Windermere

This futuristic adventure activity sees water pumped through jet nozzles into your boots, providing thrust for the rider to take off from the ground and fly metres into the air. This unique activity is available at the Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa.

Infinity Bridge

Views to the Honister Pass below

Challenge yourself with this high-up crossing which isn’t for the faint-hearted. Located at Honister Slate Mine, this bridge stands 2000 feet above the valley floor, strung across a stunning gorge high up the mountain – the highest of its kind in Britain.
