An inviting holiday cottage for four, capturing far-reaching, undulating views and in a great location for gentle hill or riverside walks, as well as more ambitious fell climbing.

Head to this delightful holiday home and surround yourself with the natural beauty of Eskdale. A great base from which to explore the western side of the Lake District, this two-bedroom property is also well positioned for the coast. Pack picnics and venture out alongside the River Esk, where you can canoe, fish and even swim if you are brave enough. Drive 11.5 miles and then walk the final 0.5 miles to attempt to climb Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England. Venture 3 miles to Boot to catch a steam train on the scenic Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway. Pause in Ravenglass, 3.5 miles from the cottage, to stroll on the beach and visit Muncaster Castle and Gardens.

Enter this charming Lakeland cottage via the porch and wander on through into the lounge, with its picture windows offering exceptional views. Relax in here as you gaze outside or perhaps switch the TV and settle down to a film together. Play a CD as you plan days out and excursions from the cottage. Amble through into the kitchen/diner to make a cup of tea from the welcome pack and carry it back through to the lounge or sit at the table to enjoy it as you think about what to make for supper. Find everything you need here to whip up holiday treats, including an electric cooker, microwave and fridge with small freezer compartment. There is also a dishwasher. Dine together at the table or out in the patio garden on warm days. One of the bedrooms, with twin beds, is located next to the kitchen. Climb the stairs up to the first floor to discover the second bedroom, which has a super-king size bed. The family bathroom, with bath with shower above, WC and handbasin is up here too. This cottage also has access to a shared laundry room with washers and dryers.

Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine out in the patio garden or spill into the enclosed walled garden, which has a lawn and is shared with the property next door.

We love this area, and the cottage location was fabulous. The cottage was fine, although the kitchen and bathroom are basic for the price. The shower is badly located, it was impossible to use without leaning backwards. The lounge is small and not the most comfortable. Great sized main bedroom with a lovely big bed, would benefit from a memory foamRead more mattress topper. The shared utility area was useful, although I didn't appreciate ?the cleaner removing my still wet washing from the dryer. Hide

This was our 5th visit to Damson Cottage. Great location for walking and wonderful views. Shop is only a mile away and nice to walk to if you avoid the raod. We walked 3.5 miles by the river Esk to Dalegarth station and got the train back. Walked up Irton Pike with its 360 degree views. However, on the Wednesday I slipped in the bath/shower. Bath fRead moreloor is sloped under the shower head - beware. Ended up in Whitehaven A&E. Next year has a 40% price increase so undecided about a revisit. Hide
