One of three holiday cottages in a converted stone barn, this retreat commands superb views of the surrounding countryside from the vantage point of Threlkeld village, 5.5 miles from Keswick.

Studded in the foothills of Blencathra, your holiday accommodation is an excellent base for adventures thanks to the plethora of footpaths and cycle paths at your disposal. Traipse across the rugged countryside at leisure, visiting the welcoming pub on your doorstep or venturing the 5.5-mile drive to Keswick to sample local fare at a welcoming restaurant. This bustling market town is known for its array of attractions such as independent shops, pubs and charming theatre. The shores of Derwentwater are just 2 miles away from the town, where you can soak up the scenery from a traditional launch service across the lake, or pack a picnic and take a stroll around the shoreline for lunch with a view.

Step through the traditional stone exterior and enter via the ground floor to find a bright and spacious property that is simply styled. The open-plan lounge/diner has a TV, DVD, and a CD/radio, and there is a handy folding table and four chairs for mealtimes. The kitchen offers an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and a microwave for preparing hearty suppers or simple snacks. Take care on the steps leading down to the ground floor, which is home to a comfortable twin bedroom and a large bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC. An airy double bedroom can be found on the first floor, which features plenty of bedroom furniture and a useful en-suite WC.

Outside, you’ll have sole use of a small gravelled patio area with garden furniture for al fresco dining with a view. To the side of the property is an excellent shared BBQ/picnic area, and there is ample off road, shared parking. On the nights you don’t feel like cooking, the village pub is across the road.

We've stayed in this property a number of times during the past 10 years and it is well located with good access to an excellent pub, good parking and has good usable accommodation. The interior and equipment is showing signs of age and the property would benefit from a re-fit and re-fresh. It's competitively priced and if you want something simpleRead more and in a good spot, it's good. Hide

Great Accommodation in a good location. It was perfect for our needs which was a basecamp for Hiking. Pub next door is perfect for evening drinks & food if required. Kitchen is well equipped and the facilities are very good. I would stay here again. There is no wi-fi which is a shame especially as phone signal is poor, just needed for weather updatRead morees really. (available in pub opposite) but understand its no easy to install so not a show stopper. Hide

The cottage was immaculate and clean and very comfortable for relaxing in. The road is noisy but we just bought earplugs to help with sleeping! We had a lovely time here.

This is a 3* cottage so you get what you pay for. It suited us for our needs and we ate in the White Horse, the Horse and Farrier, the Community cafe in Threlkeld and the Golf course clubhouse which was the only disappointment. I did some walking in the local area including along the railway path from Threlkeld to Keswick which has loads of interesRead moreting story boards with historical facts etc. We had a couple issues which were efficiently dealt with. A well situated cottage, easy to drive to various walks in and around the Keswick area and also not far from Ullswater. The pub opposite is very popular and food is beautiful though not cheap. Would be better if guests could arrive earlier than 5pm
