Scales is a tiny hamlet on the A66 which provides easy access to the wider area. Surrounded by quiet roads that are ideal for cycling and lots of walking routes to suit all abilities, this is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts on two and four legs. Threlkeld is 2 miles along the road and is a delightful village, boasting three pubs, one of which is across the road so a hearty, home-cooked meal is always available. Just 3 miles away, the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum is a great day out, with tours taking you on an underground railway. Tackling the Skiddaw and Blencathra ranges are not for the faint-hearted and the mountain trials at Whinlatter Forest Park will delight the mountain bikers amongst you. For a spot of retail therapy head to Keswick (6 miles), where there is a great choice of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants all on the banks of Derwentwater.

Enter this tri-level barn conversion from the main door into the spacious, open-plan living space. The heart of the house, there is ample space for everyone to gather at the end of a busy day. Relax on the two sofas with a glass of wine in hand and a film on the TV, as your pup snoozes at your feet. There is a dining table and chairs to seat up to six people, perfect for sociable mealtime gatherings. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer. Completing this floor is the shower room. From this floor stairways lead to both the first floor and the lower ground floor. There is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with a shower over the bath on the lower ground floor. There is also a hallway that leads onto the large patio area with table and chairs. On the first floor there is a spacious, double bedroom.

Outside there is a patio area with outdoor seating, and a further BBQ and picnic area that is shared with the adjoining two cottages. There is parking to the side of the property in a large off-road parking area.

Good location is good for walking/fell running but the property is in a very poor state of repair. We stayed here 12 years ago & it seems very little (if anything) has been done to the property since. The fridge is held together with tape, half of the light bulbs in the property are missing, the hot tap does not work in one bathroom, & furniture inRead more the bedroom is falling apart. The advertised DVD player was not there & parking far from ample as you have to compete with walkers and pub goers. Hide

This cottage is in a great location, we walked up Blencathra from the front door. Thee is loads of space and very good food in the pub behind. Despite being so close to the main road traffic noise is minimal. A fantastic cottage! Weve stayed before and have already rebooked for next year too. It has everything we couldve needed and in a perfect location for exploring. Very clean and homely, would definitely recommend.

The layout and space in the cottage is good. It is right beside the A66 so noisy. Sadly we cannot recommend this property as things we reported last year were still the same and on the Thursday night we found a substantial leak in the kitchen roof and a lesser one in the bedroom. You could see water damage from before. Nothing was done despite contRead moreacting the owner. This property has maintenance and update needs that are not being dealt with. Hide

Plus side is it is a big cottage with plenty of space. 2 bathrooms. Great area for Blancathra, Siddaw & Helvellyn & Keswick Nice local pub on door step. Negative Glass on oven door nearly fell out, needs fixing. Needs bit of TLC in places. Overall Would stay there again.

We have now stayed in these cottages for three years running. The location is very good with easy access to Keswick and different areas of the Lakes. We like that we can have family staying next door - which is difficult to find elsewhere. They are also really spacious with good heating. But, the decor is tired, the furniture sagging and in some caRead moreses falling apart. Each year we have reported the same faults but there have been minimal changes made. Definitely not the luxury option! Hide

Well, we was really pleased with our accomodation at Scales View. Despite it being away from any main urban areas, for us , that was part of the reason we booked it. The views over the countryside and up to Blencathra were breath-taking. The pub , directly behind was very welcoming and had great food and drinks and a lovely working fireplace. KeswiRead moreck is only approx. 5 miles away. The cottage itself was comfortable and warm with all the things you need for cooking and living away from home . Hide

Great property for a family holiday. Warm, comfortable, clean. Could do with a bit of attention. Good location if you dont mind the noise from the road. No frills but ideal as a base for a walking holiday. No WiFi and very poor signal. We will continue to use this property, as it is ideal for us as a family.
