Retreat with family or friends at this gorgeous abode near Bassenthwaite. Enjoy sociable evenings or steal away for some peace and quiet in the delightful sun room.

Make the 10-mile trip to Whinlatter Forest Park where a plethora of mountain bike trails await. You can also entertain adrenaline seekers here with a trip to Go Ape!. On the way home, stop off in Keswick (6 miles) for a bite to eat or spend the day here and visit the attractions, which include a pair of museums and the swimming pool, before boarding a boat to cruise across Derwentwater. A 4.5-mile walk from your door, Dodd Fell is a gentle climb rewarded with panoramic views reaching far and wide. Treat yourself with a meal at the pub here and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife on the way up. Bassenthwaite village is 1.5 miles away and has a lovely pub that welcomes children and dogs.

Head inside this welcoming home and enjoy spending time relaxing in the dual aspect lounge. With inviting sofas and chairs, a Smart TV and chess table, find plenty to keep you entertained on nights in, and stay warm beside the wood burner. If you fancy somewhere quiet to sit and read a book, make your way to the sun room, which shares its space with the kitchen/diner. Enjoy the long, verdant views and make use of the telescope on clear nights. Kids can play with the toys provided, or they can head into the media room, which doubles up as a children’s room with beanbags, a wall-mounted TV, and a docking station for Apple devices. It boasts fantastic views to Bassenthwaite, too. The modern kitchen is equipped with five-ring gas hob, built-in double range oven, microwave, dishwasher and large fridge with freezer compartment. Serve up at the breakfast bar, which doubles up as a kitchen island, and enjoy eating together and admiring the views. If you need to dry clothes throughout your stay, utilise the clothes airer, iron and ironing board, which can be found in the laundry room. There is a useful WC on the ground floor, too. Climb the stairs to the first floor, where there’s a super-king-size bedroom with gorgeous views and an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. There are two more king-size bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms – one with shower only, one with separate shower and bath. The final bedroom has twin beds. A family bathroom with shower completes the first floor.

Spend time in the great outdoors and enjoy a tipple on the deck, which has comfortable outdoor furniture. There is more room to sit outside to the front of the home, and lovely communal gardens beyond the decking. The garden is unenclosed so take care with little ones and dogs. There is parking for up to four cars under the archway just before the property, plus further space available on site.

The property was in a lovely location. The property was very well equipped and the layout downstairs worked very well for the whole family. However there was damp and mold in one of the bedrooms .The rest of the cottage was very clean and comfortable.

We had a lovely stay at Parkergate Farmhouse. Beautiful view. Spotlessly clean. Lovely bedding, comfy beds, excellent crockery and spotless glassware. The only downside was the number of steps inside the property, in bedrooms and bathrooms resulted in multiple trip hazards until we got used to them, this should be made clear on the listing.

A large cottage with useful rooms like a utility/drying room, a room to hang coats, a playroom for the children plus lots of bath/shower rooms. The manager of the property was very helpful when I phoned up. The views even in bad weather were delightful. The toys left out were great for our toddlers and the table-tennis for the adults. This is a superb property - great location, all the bedrooms are very good; there is plenty of seating in the dining and living room areas; there is also extra space downstairs including a carpeted area (where we did some yoga-type exercise) and a table tennis room (where we stored a pushbike). The kitchen is very well equipped with more than enougRead moreh cutlery and crockery. Everything works well, including the showers. Stunning scenery all round the property. Parkergate Farmhouse has the most beautiful views looking westward across Bassenthwaite Lake. Its well equipped and comfortable with plenty of parking while Keswick and Cockermouth are easily accessible. Its a good base for the northern Lakes.
