Situated between Keswick and Penrith, this cosy cottage is an ideal base for exploring the northern Lake District and, in particular, the beautiful Ullswater valley.

Within 7 miles of the peaceful Ullswater, Troutbeck is a paradise for fell walkers and cyclists alike. Spend a day on the water by hiring a kayak or, for a more leisurely pace, hop aboard one of the Ullswater steamers for a gentle cruise. For hillwalkers, tackling Helvellyn, one of the highest mountains in the Lake District, is a must, and the tumbling waterfalls at Aira Force (4.5 miles) are just beautiful. Historians will love exploring the rooms at Dalemain, an impressive stately home 8.5 miles away, whilst the gothic ruins of Lowther Castle, 12 miles away, are well worth a visit. Rhegad, 5 miles away, has independent shops, cafés, an exhibition centre and a large 3D cinema which is great wet-weather entertainment. For some retail therapy, head to Penrith, 10 miles away and find supermarkets, independent retailers, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Just off the A66 and offering great access to all areas of the Lake District, this compact and cosy cottage for two is elegant with fresh, clean decor throughout. Enter the charming living room where a wonderful large pointed window bathes the room in light. Perfect for relaxing after a busy day, settle on the sofa, glass of wine in hand and film on the small TV as your dog dozes in front of the wood burner. Beyond this is the kitchen and dining area. The simple and compact kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave and a fridge/freezer. Enjoy romantic meals for two at the dining table before retiring to bed. The bright bedroom has twin beds which are close together, a built-in wardrobe and a dresser. The shower room has a large curved walk-in shower.

Outside, there is a lovely patio area with a table and chairs for two, where you can dine alfresco and enjoy the magnificent views. There is a shared garden and plenty of lockable storage space at the property.

We enjoyed our holiday very much. The only thing that I misjudged when booking was the closeness to the busy A66 . Other than that..no complaints.

My husband and i had a lovely stay at the cottage with our dog. The cottage was a perfect location; main road ten minutes from Penrith & Keswick, 30 mins to Ambleside & 45 to Windermere. Ate at the White Horse Inn almost every night as there was only a microwave and micro hob/oven at the cottage. Garden was not secure so i took the dog outside as nRead moreeeded. Luckily there was no-one in the main house door. Had a great stay and would recommend Hide

Lovely stay, good location for walking that part of the Lake District. Found the pub nearby friendly and had a tasty meal there. Cottage well equipped and lovely wood burner ensured it was warm and cosy. The A66 is very close, and based on other reviews I took ear plugs and used them each night. Took an extendable lead for my dog luckily, as gardenRead more not secure for dogs. No WiFi, 4G or phone signal either so used pub WiFi or drove to find a signal. Had a great week there and it met my needs. Hide
