A contemporary property situated in 2 acres of private hillside and woodland, with stunning views towards Bassenthwaite Lake and on the cusp of Whinlatter Forest Park, perfect for group getaways of six.

Enjoy the fabulous Lake District National Park from this stylish cottage on the edge of Whinlatter Forest Park, with direct access to walking and cycling trails. Visit the shores of 4-mile-long Bassenthwaite Lake, or head to the market town of Keswick (3.5 miles) with its great mix of shops, bars and restaurants. Situated in Thornthwaite, this property is in an ideal location to explore fells, woodlands and lakes. Neighbouring Braithwaite (1.5 miles) has a few pubs and a village shop.

Enter the house through the practical utility room which has a washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and plenty of storage space for boots and coats. There is also a handy downstairs cloakroom here, before heading through to the well-equipped kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has an AGA oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and Dolce Gusto machine. Take a seat at the dining table or breakfast bar and enjoy a meal together as a group, taking in the views of Skiddaw. There are two options for chilling out: a cosy snug just off the kitchen where you can watch the local birdlife, or, on the lower floor, a spacious living room complete with a wood burner and TV. Upstairs are three bedrooms: one king-size, one double and one twin room. Adjacent to the master bedroom is a convenient shower room, and there is a separate family bathroom with a shower over the bath completing the first floor.

To the front of the property is a lovely terraced space with patio furniture, great for al fresco dining and admiring the views around you. There is also lockable storage for bikes and parking for three cars. At the rear of the home are 2 acres of hillside garden which is partially enclosed, leading into a pretty woodland. Enjoy swinging on the rope swing, exploring the private woodland or taking one of the tracks that lead into the magical and enchanting forest park. The garden and woodland are a haven for wildlife including slow worms,  hedgehogs, bank voles, red leg partridges,siskins, nut hatches, tawny owls and more.

  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £250 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £30. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

A really lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Lots of walking straight from the door. The walk through the woods to Braithwaite is a pleasure and the food at the Coledale Inn is superb.

A lovely property in a great location. Keswick is 5 minutes away if you need anything! Access to the back garden is steep and not for those with mobility issues - but our dogs (lab sized) loved it. We will be back.

Delightful cottage in a lovely village with walks from the door. Its elevated position gives fabulous views to the west, the extensive hillside garden to the rear however is unsuitable for young children

This is a superb Lakeland home with outstanding views over the fells and surrounding area. It was easy to find and access with only minor manoeuvres. It offers everything you could ask for and require for a very comfortable and cosy stay and offers easy access to the Northern Lakes. We loved our stay here and would definitely be back.

We visit the Lakes every year as a family and this cottage was one of our faves. The cottage itself is gorgeous, all fitted to a high standard and really cosy. Location was perfect, Keswick a 5 min drive away. Only negative is a 5pm check in is too late, we were unpacking in the dark, not ideal with small children.

What a great cottage, it's so wam and snug in the.winter with both an Aga and Woodburning stove. The kids both enjoy staying here and there's lots of space for the 4 adults and 2 older teenagers plus 2 dogs. It's clean with all that you need to enjoy cooking/baking. All bedrooms are comfortable. The housekeeper (Alison?) was amazing, went out of heRead morer way to help with an early delivery of shopping and then as we were slightly late gathering all our stuff together wasn't rushing us. A lovely spacious, clean and tidy and cottage with beautiful views to the front, whilst the garden has untapped potential and has plenty to explore for children and dogs. Situated near Whinlatter makes ideal walking grounds.

Love this house. At least our 5 th stay in it. Fantastic views. Spacious accommodation. Clean and well equipped. Every year we go we notice new improvements. Gallery gift shop and tea room a stones throw away. Superb walks in the woods nearby
