A cosy retreat for couples or families, this charming property is ideally placed for exploring the Georgian town of Cockermouth, the Lake District National Park and the Cumbrian coastline.

Tucked away in the heart of Cockermouth, this property is just a few steps from the local independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Located on the River Derwent, Cockermouth dates back to Norman times but is full of grand Georgian architecture including Wordsworth House, which is open to the public. Also well worth a visit is the Jennings Brewery and Museum, where visitors can discover the 175-year-old beer brewing process and sample the finished product. A 3-mile drive east of town will bring you to the western Lake District including Loweswater, 7.5 miles away, Crummock, 8 miles away, and Buttermere, 11 miles away, all of which offer breath-taking lakeside views. An 8-mile drive west will bring you to the coast and the old industrial town of Workington, now the main shopping hub of West Cumbria, or Maryport, 7 miles away, home to an aquarium, Roman museum and go-karting.

Inside, this refurbished cottage is light, bright and full of character. Rustle up tasty meals in the compact yet well-equipped kitchen, where you will find an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee machine, plus a washing machine and tumble dryer tucked away around the corner. This room is open plan with the dining room, where a feature tiled fireplace still houses the original bread oven. Another original fireplace can be found in the delightful lounge, which also benefits from a gas effect fire, Freeview TV and Netflix together with a range of books and games to choose from. A modern and bright shower room completes the ground floor. Steep stairs lead up to the first floor where two elegant double bedrooms are located. While one boasts a charming window seat for reading, the other overlooks gardens and trees.

Stepping outside, the private back garden has a paved area with pot plants and a table and chairs for enjoying al fresco meals. From here, stone steps lead up to an area with decorative stonesand a further seating area surrounded by a brick and stone wall.

Nice little cottage, very comfortable beds, very clean. Lovely little touches. Lounge would be more suitable for 3 guests, rather than 4. Well equipped little kitchenette. Excellent location right in the centre of Cockermouth. Charming terraced house with all mod cons. We would suggest for future residents parking at the Riverside car park that they purchase one ticket for the whole of their stay as it can become quite expensive and the one way system to reach that car park is a long way round from the accommodation.
