Immerse yourselves in the tranquillity of the Lake District when you retreat to this former barn at Bassenthwaite, 7 miles from Keswick. Sleeping three guests, and also welcoming two delighted dogs with open paws, the unique holiday home is in a superb position for anyone who enjoys walking, cycling and wildlife watching. Just 1 mile from Bassenthwaite Lake, which is famous for its rare fish and nesting ospreys, the barn is also 3 miles from Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve, protected for its special wetland flora and fauna.
Let yourselves into this rustic, single-storey property and make yourselves at home in its cosy lounge, with its exposed stonework. Watch TV in here; choose a DVD perhaps and chat about the routes you plan to follow the next day. Head into the kitchen as dinnertime approaches to cook up tasty treats with the fresh, local produce you have sourced on your forays out. Lay the table in here then enjoy your feast before heading off to either the comfortable double or single bedroom, each of which has its an en-suite shower room, with WC. Step outside into the garden on sunny mornings and carry your first cup of coffee out here to ponder over as you take in the glorious views. Find parking for two cars at the barn
Pack a picnic, lace up your boots and head out, with your furry friends possibly in tow, to explore the area. Experienced walkers can attempt the imposing Skiddaw or Ullock Pike from Bassenthwaite. Those who prefer a gentler climb can head up to the Cumbria Way and Dash Falls, 3 miles away. Visit the Lake District Wildlife Park, 2 miles from the barn, or the Lakes Distillery, 2.5 miles away, where you can see how local whisky, vodka and gin are made.
