This charming cottage is set in a peaceful rural location and is the perfect base for a small family or two couples to explore the Southern Lake District and Cumbria coastline. Dating back to the 11th century, nearby Broughton-in-Furness (7.5 miles) has much to admire, including a pretty, cobbled square complete with an ancient horse-chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and pretty Georgian homes. The area is ideal for a walking or climbing holiday, with easy access to the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley (8 miles) and the Lake District fells. No visit to the Cumbria coast is complete without a trip to the beach with your dog, and there are few beaches as wild and beautiful as Silecroft (2.5 miles). This sand and shingle beach stretches for 3 miles and sits against the backdrop of the majestic Black Combe fell. Take a stroll along a section of the newly opened English Coast Path, which runs from Silecroft to Whitehaven, some 30 miles away, taking in the spectacular seascape along the way.

The cottage has been lovingly restored, keeping many original features such as oak beams, Lakeland slate floors and exposed brick walls. You enter the house from the covered porch, which leads directly into the characterful country kitchen. The slate floors and oak beams start here and continue throughout the ground floor, where you also have a large lounge and dining area with a fantastic fireplace housing a wood burner. This room is spacious and full of character and features a TV and an elegant dining table. The ground floor also has a wet room with a walk-in shower that’s finished to a high standard. Upstairs, the bedroom has two king-size beds with a sliding door separating two sleeping areas - perfect for use as a family room or two private spaces (but bear in mind you still have to walk through one to access the other. The sizeable bathroom features a luxurious free-standing bath and boasts views across the fells.

Outside, there is an enclosed garden/seating area where you can take in delightful views of the Whicham Valley, Black Combe Fell and even the start of the Coniston Fells. There are also great walks straight from your doorstep, including Silecroft beach which is the perfect spot for dog walking.

This is a lovely cottage which is full of character and located in a beautiful setting. The cottage is equipped with everything you could wish for including very good wifi and there was even a Tassimo coffee machine. Louise, the owner has thought of everything whilst retaining the essence of a stone built cottage and was the perfect host with greatRead more communication, help and advice. The log burner and plentiful supply of logs made our winter stay even cosy and very homely. This cottage is ideal for those with dogs in terms of location for walks, the secure garden and flag stone floors which are easy to clean from muddy paws. We cannot recommend this cottage enough. We will definitely return. Hide

Very satisfied with our choice of cottage and the standard of stay that it provided my family. One suggested improvement - having recently entered the future world of electric vehicles - the provision of access to charging will increasingly become attractive if not an essential item of a holiday cottage,

A beautiful cottage in a quiet location. We didn't see others on our walks for the most part. The cottage was the perfect place to hunker down in late autumn. Feel completely rested and relaxed.

The location only got a 4 because we thought the property info says its in broughton in Furness. Hence that was the area we googled for things to do/see. The property was 9+ miles away, which meant we had to drive everyday. Accuracy of location is needed.
