Ullswater is to the east (10 miles), with Bassenthwaite Lake to the west (8 miles). Local attractions include the Aira Force Waterfall, Castlerigg Stone Circle and Mirehouse and Gardens (all within 10 miles). Keswick (4 miles) is at the head of Derwentwater and is home to the Derwent Pencil Museum, Keswick Adventure Centre, Puzzling Place and the Theatre by the Lake.
