This cosy first-floor apartment in the traditional village of Rosthwaite, sleeps two people in one bedroom and welcomes two canine companions. Sitting in a pretty complex of stone properties in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley, it’s the ideal Lake District retreat for a romantic couple who want to make the very most of the great outdoors. Spend your days hiking Honister Pass, and your evenings enjoying a glass of wine in the enclosed shared garden.

Stroll through the shared hallway and head up the staircase to the first-floor apartment. Step inside and you’ll find a stylish open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner area, which boasts pretty views over the village. Cook a romantic meal for two in the compact kitchen and enjoy an intimate dinner at the dining table in front of the window. After dinner, make your way to the shared garden to sip a glass of wine and watch the stars come out, or head to the living area to catch up on your favourite TV shows beside the electric fire in the living area. When the day is done, retreat to the lovely double bedroom for a great night’s sleep.

If you love rock climbing, the Barrowdale Valley is the place to be, because there are plenty of low level fast drying crags that are easily accessible from the road. The climb at Little Chamonix (6 miles) is one of the UK's most popular multi-pitch climbs. Alternatively, pack up a picnic and head to the attractive village of Grange in Borrowdale (2 miles) and enjoy an al fresco lunch on the banks of the River Derwent. Or make your way into Keswick and check out the artisan spirits and liqueurs on offer at the Spirit of Keswick Distillery (6.5 miles).

Well located to cover most of the key attractions associated with The Lake District. Car parking looks tight but actually works very well if you follow the layout in the handbook. To us, the cottage looks either very recently refurbished or incredibly well maintained.

Water was unbelieveably slow in bathroom, owners informed. If you are quite large this property is not for you. Most things were fine but I found the amount of room in the bedroom was too small. This is a lovely clean, well-equipped Ist floor appartment. The great bonus was a frequent bus service to Keswick or Seatoller. There are also buses to Buttermere and Catbells. Very convenient - and we were entertained when the open top bus had to slow near our window, allowing some amusing interactions with the passengers. There is a plentiful varRead moreiety of walking straight from the property and a tea shop, selling basic provisions, and a week-end community centre bar, in the village. Hide

The cottage is in a perfect location for walking without having to drive anywhere . It was small but comfortable and had a good sized bathroom. Being on the first floor , we had good views while enjoying breakfast and we were able to sit outside in the evening . We would book here again.

Small but big enough for two people. Well equipped on the whole. The upstairs landing provided useful extra space for outdoor gear. We would not recommend this apartment as big enough to accommodate more than a very small dog, if you have one. Location is superb.
