Overflowing with tradition and charm, this beautiful stone house in a quaint complex of properties in Rosthwaite originally served as the village’s Post Office. Today the building’s ground-floor apartment sleeps four people over two bedrooms and welcomes two canine companions – making it the ideal accommodation option for small families or groups of friends in search of a characterful cottage in a beautiful village location. Spend your days hiking the Coast to Coast and Cumbria Way (both routes pass through the village), and your evenings warming your toes by the apartment’s flickering wood burner.

Step inside and you’ll find yourself in the cosy lounge. Make yourself at home and then head through to the light and bright kitchen/diner to rustle up some dinner for your group. Get everyone together to dine around the table, before heading out to the shared courtyard to enjoy a glass of wine as you watch the stars come out. Alternatively, retreat to the lounge to lose yourself in a good book on the window seat or warm your toes by the wood burner. When the day is done, you’ll find two lovely bedrooms to choose from.

Take a stroll to Millican's Dalton's Caves (1 mile), where the self-styled ‘Professor of Adventure’ lived each summer for nearly 50 years. Alternatively, go rock climbing at Little Chamonix (6 miles), one of the UK's most popular multi-pitch climbs. Or make your way into Keswick and check out the artisan spirits and liqueurs on offer at the Spirit of Keswick Distillery (6.5 miles).

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made into a twin on request) and 1 double
  • 2 en-suite shower rooms with shower and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer

  • Wood burner in the lounge

  • Farm café/shop (seasonal opening) are within walking distance.
  • 3 country pubs within 1 mile of the property
  • There are alternative routes to Rosthwaite available from Braithwaite or from Grange. From these two start points, route to Buttermere via the Newlands pass. Once in Buttermere, take the B5289 to Rosthwaite via the Honister pass.
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas

A very convenenient locaton enabling access in several directions for a variety of walks, and the use of the very frequent bus, including over Honister Pass. The passing traffic right outside the door was not intrusive and was mainly during day light hours.

This is a great Cottage in a fantastic location. We didn't use the car at all during our stay as there are so many amazing walks from the door (but there is no shop, nor many places nearby to eat, so make sure you bring everything you need). Very comfortable and a great layout with the two bedrooms being quite separate and very private. Nice livingRead more area - as long as you don't mind passers-by being able to look right in! Hide

We found it a bit soulless and corporate - pricey for a place that's not particularly special.
