A cosy retreat offering the perfect base for lovers of the great outdoors. Watch the sheep and lambs from your window in springtime.
Treat yourself to a romantic getaway with your nearest and dearest at this cute cottage in the pretty village of Rosthwaite. Set on a quaint complex of stone properties, this wonderful apartment sleeps two people in one bedroom and welcomes two canine companions – making it the ideal rural retreat for romantic couples. Spend your days hiking the Cumbria Way or cruising on Derwent Water.
Step inside and you’ll find a small hall where you can store all of your outdoor gear. Kick off your boots and stroll through to the bright, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. This lovely space boasts a beamed ceiling and fabulous views across the fields. Get busy in the kitchen and whip up a romantic meal for two, which you can enjoy in the dining area in front of the window. After dinner, crack open a bottle of wine in the shared garden, or snuggle up in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire in the lounge area. When the day is done, there’s a lovely king-size bedroom waiting for you down the hall.
Take a stroll to the quirkiest tourist attraction in the Lake District: The Bowder Stone (I mile). This huge rock is balanced improbably on one edge, and it’s been a big hit with tourists since Georgian times. Alternatively, make your way into Keswick and check out the artisan spirits and liqueurs on offer at the Spirit of Keswick Distillery (6.5 miles). Or head to Ambleside (22.5 miles) and challenge yourself to a hike up to Kirkstone Pass - the Lake District's highest pass.
